The expectation from this move is to ease bank financing for such projects.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>What is Infrastructure Status?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>The Department of Economic Affairs(DAE), Ministry of Finance will grant the <strong>Infrastructure Status<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Benefits<\/strong>: The status helps projects in such sectors to get easier financing from banks. However, the status no longer involves significant tax breaks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Infrastructure Status for convention centres:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Firstly, The government included \u2018Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre in the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Harmonised Master List of Infrastructure<\/span>. This is done by creating a new category <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">under Social and Commercial Infrastructure<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Secondly, however, The benefits are not available to all convention centres. <\/strong>The benefits will be available only for projects with a minimum built-up floor area of 1,00,000 square metres with exclusive exhibition space or convention space or both combined.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thirdly, these include <\/strong>primary facilities such as exhibition centres, convention halls, auditoriums, plenary halls, business centres, meeting halls among others.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Why this move?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>India doesn\u2019t have large convention centres <\/strong>or single halls with capacities to hold 7,000 to 10,000 people.<\/li>\n<li><strong>On the other hand, countries such as Thailand<\/strong> are a major global MICE (<a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/mice-tourism-policy-of-gujarat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions<\/a>) destination.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hence, granting infrastructure status <\/strong>will help the sector to generate significant financing for the projects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note: <\/strong>In August 2020, the Government of India had granted \u2018Infrastructure\u2019 status for affordable rental housing projects.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/business\/finmin-grants-infrastructure-status-for-convention-centres\/article34600605.ece\"><strong>The Hindu<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the News?
