It includes a 2 km mountain tunnel.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>About the Highway:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Firstly, the Highway <\/strong>passes through the world\u2019s deepest canyon, the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon in Tibet. The canyon is located along the Brahmaputra river(known as Yarlung Zangbo in Tibet).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Secondly, the highway connects <\/strong>the Chinese city of Nyingchi with Medog County in Tibet. It will reduce the travel time between the two by around eight hours.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thirdly, Significance: <\/strong>The highway is part of China\u2019s ambitious plans to build roads and tunnels along the length of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with India. It is connecting far-flung areas to inland cities and airports.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Concerns for India:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Firstly, the Highway <\/strong>enables greater access to remote areas along the disputed border with Arunachal Pradesh in India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Secondly, the highwa<\/strong>y will\u00a0play a key role in the surveying of and planning for the mega Yarlung Zangbo hydro-power project. China is planning to build this project at the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Other Projects of China along Border Areas:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Railway Line:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>China <\/strong>has begun work on a strategically significant <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/chinas-5-year-plan-and-indias-concerns\/\"><strong>railway line <\/strong><\/a>that will link Sichuan province with Nyingchi in Tibet. It also lies close to the Arunachal Pradesh border.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Civilian settlements:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>In 2017, the Chinese Government launched<\/strong> a plan to build \u201cmoderately well-off villages\u201d with Civilian settlements in the border areas.<\/li>\n<li><strong>These villages will be located <\/strong>close to the border areas, some of which lie in disputed territories claimed by India and Bhutan.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Example<\/strong>: In 2020, satellite images showed a new village called <a href=\"https:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/factly-articles-for-november-25-2020\/\"><strong>Pangda<\/strong><\/a> being built by China.
