It is the time when the country\u2019s people are struggling with hunger amid the <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/how-indias-diaspora-in-us-helped-india-in-covid-crisis\/\">COVID-19 crisis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>The Right to Food Campaign highlighted the following issues:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Record Foodgrain Exports:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Government of India has exported <\/strong>over 13 million tonnes of non-basmati rice and more than two million tonnes of wheat in 2020-21.<\/li>\n<li>The Government could have used the <strong>exported grain<\/strong> to provide to 25 crore people with rations for a year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Coverage of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana Scheme:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana <\/strong>provides additional free grain for only two months. It also covers only those who are already included under the<a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/national-food-security-act2013\/\"> National Food Security Act<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The food security crisis faced by the informal sector <\/strong>workers, especially those who do not have ration cards, has been completely ignored.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hence, the Government <\/strong>should immediately universalise the Public Distribution System(PDS). It should also extend the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana scheme for a period of at least six months.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>About Right to Food Campaign:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Right to Food campaign <\/strong>is an informal network of individuals and organizations.
