It highlights the India-US synergy on bilateral, regional, and multilateral issues.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>Background<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indo-U.S ties are improving under the <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/india-us-relation-under-biden-administration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Biden administration<\/a>. The relationship is now showing synergy on bilateral, regional, and multilateral issues. Earlier, They used to look at it as separate domains.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The recent visit of Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar to New York presents an opportunity to deepen the same.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><b>Synergy between bilateral, regional, and multilateral issues<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Indo-U.S defence cooperation laid the foundation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/highlights-of-the-quad-summit\/\">QUAD <\/a>group. It aims to ensure a peaceful and stable Indo-Pacific region.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earlier there used to be constant friction over regional issues between the two countries.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The US is supplying essential items for vaccine production and delivering significant relief supplies to India post 2nd wave. This support is crucial for kick-starting the strategy to vaccinate the Indo-Pacific as agreed in the 1st QUAD meeting.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both the countries are currently the members of UNSC (<a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/q-3-why-there-have-been-demands-of-many-countries-including-india-for-the-reformation-of-united-nations-security-council-in-this-context-highlight-the-need-for-reforms-in-unsc-why-india\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">United Nations Security Council<\/a>). This establishes a synergy between bilateral and multilateral security.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The US led the charge to end India\u2019s nuclear isolation and helped India in getting a Nuclear Supplier Group (NSG) waiver. This allowed the supply of nuclear fuel to India for civilian purposes.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><b>Factors behind such synergy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>New Leadership in the U.S:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The new President (Joe Biden) discards America\u2019s unilateralism impulses that came to the fore under his predecessor Donald Trump.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Biden is keener to cooperate on multilateral agreements on trade, health, and climate change.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Common Rival<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: China has emerged as a common troubling rival for both countries.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The US doesn\u2019t want to lose its top position to Beijing, especially in the economic domain. Overexposure to China has impacted their domestic manufacturing.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Similarly, India is also unhappy with China as:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One, It blocked India\u2019s entry into the <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/nuclear-suppliers-group-nsg\/\">Nuclear Suppliers Group<\/a> and Delhi\u2019s quest for a permanent seat at the UNSC.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two, It asked for the UNSC intervention against India\u2019s constitutional changes in Jammu and Kashmir.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Three, It protects Islamabad from international pressure on the question of Pakistan\u2019s continuing support for cross-border terrorism in the region.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Geographical Proximity:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Indo-Pacific vision covers the geographical boundaries of both countries. It automatically breeds regional cooperation.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><b>Way Forward<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both the countries should now revive the strategy to vaccinate the Indo-Pacific as the second wave begins to recede in India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Further, the countries should cooperate in boosting the global resilience against the pandemics and frame new international norms.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Convergence must be established over trade and climate change. India must take support of the US to achieve green growth and reduce its dependence on China.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India is showing a keen interest to cooperate with the west as proved by its active support towards the European Alliance for Multilateralism.
