{"id":10885,"date":"2019-10-14T13:50:05","date_gmt":"2019-10-14T08:20:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=10885"},"modified":"2019-10-14T13:50:05","modified_gmt":"2019-10-14T08:20:05","slug":"hiv-aids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/hiv-aids\/","title":{"rendered":"HIV-AIDS"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>News<\/strong>: According\nto Mizoram State AIDS Control Society (MSACS), Mizoram reports nine positive\ncases of Human Immunodeficiency Virus\/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome\n(HIV\/AIDS) a day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HIV-AIDS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus\nthat attacks cells that help the body fight infection, making a person more\nvulnerable to other infections and diseases.<\/li><li>Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a\nterm which applies to the most advanced stages of HIV infection. It is defined\nby the occurrence of any of more than 20 opportunistic infections or\nHIV-related cancers.<\/li><li>At present there is no effective cure for HIV,\nbut HIV can be controlled. The medicine used to treat HIV is called\nantiretroviral therapy or ART.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HIV Prevalence in\nIndia<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>As per the India HIV Estimation 2017 report,\nNational adult (15\u201349 years) HIV prevalence in India is estimated at 0.22% in\n2017.<\/li><li>Among the States\/UTs, in 2017, Mizoram has shown\nthe highest estimated adult HIV prevalence of 2.04% followed by Manipur, and Nagaland.<\/li><li>The total number of people living with HIV in\nIndia is estimated at 21.40 lakhs in 2017.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Steps taken by the Government:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>National AIDS Control Program (NACP): It was\nlaunched in 1992. Launched in 2012, under the Phase IV of NCAP, the target is\nto reduce new infections by 50% (2007 Baseline of NACP III). It also seeks comprehensive\ncare, support and treatment to all persons living with HIV\/AIDS.<\/li><li>National AIDS Control Organization: It is a\ndivision of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare that provides leadership\nto HIV\/AIDS control programme in India through 35 HIV\/AIDS Prevention and\nControl Societies. It was established in 1992 to implement NACP.<\/li><li>National Strategic Plan (2017-24): It aims\ntowards fast tracking strategy of ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030 and is\nexpected to pave a roadmap for achieving the target of 90:90:90.<\/li><li>Mission SAMPARK: The aim is to trace those who\nare Left to Follow Up and are to be brought under Antiretroviral Therapy (ART)\nservices.<\/li><li>Project Sunrise: It aims at prevention of AIDS especially\namong people injecting drugs in the 8 North-Eastern states<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Global Initiatives<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS\n(UNAIDS): It is the main advocate for accelerated, comprehensive and\ncoordinated global action on the HIV\/AIDS pandemic. It was established in 1994\nand is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. <\/li><li>90:90:90 Strategy: It is a HIV treatment\nnarrative of UNAIDS programme which has set targets of<ul><li>90% of all people living with HIV will know\ntheir HIV status (90% diagnosed),<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>90% of all people with diagnosed HIV infection\nwill receive sustained antiretroviral therapy (90% on HIV treatment) and<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>90% of all people receiving antiretroviral\ntherapy will have viral suppression (90% suppressed)<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: According to Mizoram State AIDS Control Society (MSACS), Mizoram reports nine positive cases of Human Immunodeficiency Virus\/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV\/AIDS) a day.
