It used to be sighted in the Balukhand-Konark Wildlife Sanctuary till 2012-13. But now has vanished from the area.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thirdly, according to Census 2021, <\/strong>Blackbuck is numbered around 7,358 in Odisha in 2021. It is an antelope native to India and Nepal.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Habitat<\/strong>: It inhabits grassy plains and lightly forested areas with perennial water sources.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Features<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Males weigh heavier <\/strong>than Female Blackbucks. Males have long, ringed horns. Females may also develop horns.<\/li>\n<li>The blackbuck is a <strong>diurnal antelope<\/strong> (active mainly during the day).<\/li>\n<li>Blackbuck is considered to be <strong>the fastest animal in the world<\/strong> next to Cheetah.<\/li>\n<li>The blackbuck is a <strong>herbivore<\/strong> and grazes on <strong>low grasses <\/strong>as well.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>State Animal: <\/strong>Blackbuck has been declared as the State Animal of Punjab, Haryana, and Andhra Pradesh.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Protection Status:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>IUCN Status: <\/strong>Least Concern<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wildlife Protection Act 1972: <\/strong>Schedule I<\/li>\n<li><strong>CITES: <\/strong>Appendix III<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Religious Significance: <\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The blackbuck is <\/strong>routinely <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">depicted in miniature paintings<\/span> of the Mughal era (16th to 19th centuries) depicting royal hunts often using cheetahs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Blackbuck is mentioned in Sanskrit texts<\/strong> such as Krishna Mrig. According to Hindu mythology, the blackbuck draws the chariot of Lord Krishna.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Villagers in India and Nepal <\/strong>generally do not harm the blackbuck.
