It will accelerate efforts towards this aim.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>About the Resolution to End Malaria:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The resolution <\/strong>is led by the United States of America and Zambia.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The aim of the resolution<\/strong> is to urge the Member States to step up progress on containing the disease. It is in line with WHO\u2019s updated global malaria strategy and the WHO Guidelines for malaria.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The resolution called on <\/strong>countries to expand investment, scale-up funding for a global response. Also, it will boost investment in the research and development of new tools.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>About WHOs Global Malaria Program:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The WHO Global Malaria Program <\/strong>is responsible for coordinating WHO&#8217;s global efforts to control and eliminate malaria.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The work of the program<\/strong> is guided by the \u201cGlobal technical strategy for malaria 2016\u20132030\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Global Technical Strategy for malaria 2016\u20132030<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The WHO\u2019s global technical strategy<\/strong> was adopted by the World Health Assembly in 2015.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim<\/strong>: The strategy provides a technical framework for all malaria-endemic countries working towards malaria control and elimination.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Targets<\/strong>: Its global targets for 2030 include:\n<ul>\n<li>Reducing malaria case incidence by at least 90%.<\/li>\n<li>Reducing malaria mortality rates by at least 90%.<\/li>\n<li>Eliminating malaria in at least 35 countries.<\/li>\n<li>Preventing a resurgence of malaria in all countries that are malaria-free.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>About Malaria:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Malaria <\/strong>is a disease caused by Plasmodium parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The disease<\/strong> claims more than 400,000 lives annually. In 2019, the world reported an estimated 229 million cases of malaria and 409,000 deaths.<\/li>\n<li><strong>However, an estimated <\/strong>6<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>million deaths and 1.5 billion cases had been averted since 2000.
