{"id":110757,"date":"2021-06-05T17:06:39","date_gmt":"2021-06-05T11:36:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=110757"},"modified":"2021-06-05T17:06:39","modified_gmt":"2021-06-05T11:36:39","slug":"human-induced-global-warming-causes-over-a-third-of-heat-related-deaths-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/human-induced-global-warming-causes-over-a-third-of-heat-related-deaths-study\/","title":{"rendered":"Human-induced global warming causes over a third of &#8220;heat-related deaths&#8221;: Study"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5><\/h5>\n<h5><strong>What is the News?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>According to a study published in the journal Nature Climate Change, more than one-third of the world\u2019s heat-related deaths between 1991 and 2018 are due to<a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/swiss-protest-over-global-warming\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> global warming<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Key Findings of the study:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Between 1991 and 2018,<\/strong> more than a third (37%) of all deaths in which heat played a role were due to human-induced global warming,<\/li>\n<li><strong>Region-Wise: <\/strong>The highest percentage of heat-related deaths due to global warming was in Southern and Western Asia (Iran and Kuwait), south-east Asia (the Philippines and Thailand) and Central and South America.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Country Wise: <\/strong>The heat-related deaths due to human-induced global warming was between 35 and 39% in the United States, Australia, France, Britain and Spain. This was roughly in line with the average across all countries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>About the Study:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The study <\/strong>was led by the London School of Hygiene &amp; Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) alongside the University of Bern within the Multi-Country Multi-City(MCC) Collaborative Research Network.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The researchers analysed the data <\/strong>from 732 locations in 43 countries around the world from 1991-2018. They calculated the contribution of human-induced climate change in increasing mortality risks due to heat.<\/li>\n<li><strong>However, the study was limited<\/strong> to the warm season, defined as the four warmest consecutive months in each location. This is to focus on heat-related mortality alone.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Moreover, there were limitations of the study.<\/strong> There is a lack of empirical data from large parts of Africa and South Asia which are known to be especially vulnerable to extreme heat deaths.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The study <\/strong>has supported the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">urgent need for more ambitious mitigation and adaptation strategies<\/span> to minimise public health impacts of climate change.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.downtoearth.org.in\/news\/climate-change\/global-warming-caused-over-a-third-of-heat-related-deaths-between-1991-and-2018-study-77234\"><strong>Down To Earth<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the News?
