{"id":110761,"date":"2021-06-05T17:48:33","date_gmt":"2021-06-05T12:18:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=110761"},"modified":"2021-06-05T17:48:33","modified_gmt":"2021-06-05T12:18:33","slug":"dac-approves-building-of-6-conventional-submarines-under-project-75i","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/dac-approves-building-of-6-conventional-submarines-under-project-75i\/","title":{"rendered":"DAC approves building of 6 conventional submarines under &#8220;Project-75I&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5><\/h5>\n<h5><strong>What is the News?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/defence-acquisition-council\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Defence Acquisition Council<\/a>(DAC) headed by the Defence Minister has approved a Request For Proposal(RFP) for the construction of six conventional submarines under Project-75I.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>About the Construction of Six Conventional Submarines:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The six submarines <\/strong>under Project-75I will be built under the strategic partnership model.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Strategic Partnership Model<\/strong> is a part of the Defence Procurement Procedure. The model envisages indigenous manufacturing of major defence platforms by an Indian strategic partner. Indian partner will collaborate with a foreign original equipment manufacturer(OEM) to set up production facilities in the country.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Part of: <\/strong>The submarines are part of the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">30-year submarine-building programme<\/span> approved by the Cabinet Committee on Security in 1999.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Features: <\/strong>The submarines will be equipped with <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">air-independent propulsion(AIP) systems<\/span> that will enable the vessels to stay underwater for longer periods and enhance their combat capabilities.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The first submarine built <\/strong>under the project is likely to be delivered by 2030.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Two Indian companies <\/strong>shortlisted as strategic partners are Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) and Larsen &amp; Toubro.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The foreign manufacturers selected for the project <\/strong>are French Naval Group, German conglomerate Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, Russia\u2019s Rubin Design Bureau, Spain\u2019s Navantia and South Korea\u2019s Daewoo Shipbuilding &amp; Marine Engineering Company.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Significance of this Project-75I: <\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>This is the first project <\/strong>to be approved under the Strategic Partnership Model.<\/li>\n<li><strong>This would be one <\/strong>of the<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> largest \u2018Make in India\u2019 projects<\/span>. It will create an industrial ecosystem for submarine construction in India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>From a strategic perspective, <\/strong>Project-75I will help reduce current dependence on imports and gradually ensure greater self-reliance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>About Submarine:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>A submarine <\/strong>is a watercraft capable of independent operation underwater.
