{"id":110953,"date":"2021-06-07T18:04:27","date_gmt":"2021-06-07T12:34:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=110953"},"modified":"2021-06-07T18:40:45","modified_gmt":"2021-06-07T13:10:45","slug":"world-environment-day-2021-observed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/world-environment-day-2021-observed\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;World Environment Day&#8221; 2021 observed globally"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5><\/h5>\n<h5><strong>What is the News?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>World Environment Day was observed on the 5<sup>th<\/sup>, June 2021.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>About World Environment Day:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/world-environment-day-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World Environment Day<\/a> (WED) <\/strong>was established by the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in 1972 on the first day of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment.\n<ul>\n<li>United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) was created as a result of this conference.<\/li>\n<li>In 1974, the first WED was held with the theme &#8220;Only One Earth&#8221;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim: <\/strong>To spread awareness and to encourage people to take steps to protect the environment.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Host Country: <\/strong>It is being hosted by Pakistan\n<ul>\n<li>The idea for rotating the center of these activities through selecting different host countries began in 1987.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>The theme for 2021: <\/strong>The theme is \u201c<strong>Ecosystem Restoration<\/strong>\u201d and will focus on resetting our relation with nature.<\/li>\n<li>This WED will also mark the formal launch of the <strong>UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021 \u2013 2030.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ecosystem restoration <\/strong>is the act of helping degraded and destroyed ecosystems to recover and also protecting and conserving the ecosystems that are still intact.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Examples of degraded ecosystems <\/strong>are polluted rivers, deforested landscape, overexploited forests and non-fertile agricultural land.<\/li>\n<li><strong>2011 &#8211; 2020<\/strong> was the <strong>United Nations Decade on Biodiversity<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Read Also:-<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/down-to-earth-summary\/\">Down To Earth : Summary<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h5><strong>Initiatives by India on World Environment Day:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Indian Government <\/strong>has declared the theme for World Environment Day, 2021 as \u201c<strong>Promotion of biofuels for a better environment&#8221;.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>\u2018Report of the expert committee on the road map for <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/ethanol-as-an-alternate-fuel\/\">ethanol blending<\/a> in India 2020-2025\u2019 was released<\/li>\n<li>An<strong> E-100 pilot project <\/strong>has been launched in Pune for the production and distribution of <strong>ethanol<\/strong> across the country.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Stats:<\/strong> In 2020, the Government of India had set a target of reaching <strong>10% <\/strong>ethanol blending in petrol (10% of ethanol mixed with 90% of diesel) by <strong>2022<\/strong> &amp; <strong>20%<\/strong> ethanol blending by <strong>2030<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>However, the target date for achieving 20% ethanol-blending with petrol has been <strong>brought forward by five years to 2025<\/strong> from the earlier target of 2030.
