So, adequate studies are necessary regarding the Lab leak theory of Coronavirus.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Background<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>When the Covid-19 became a pandemic, China promoted the narrative that the virus had a natural origin, and it got spread from a wet market in Wuhan. This was done to avoid any scrutiny on researches being carried out in the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV).<\/li>\n<li>Soon, the idea of a <strong>Lab leak theory of Coronavirus was discredited as a conspiracy theory<\/strong> and most experts embraced the natural spread narrative.<\/li>\n<li>Even the findings of the <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/who-report-on-origin-of-covid-19-india-seeks-more-studies-on-virus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WHO on the origins of the SARS-CoV-2 virus<\/a> (coronavirus) dismissed the lab leak as \u201cextremely unlikely\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>However, recent developments point out the <strong>possibility that coronavirus could have originated from a lab leak,<\/strong> either intentionally or unintentionally.<\/li>\n<li>Recently, the U.S. President made an appeal to the U.S. intelligence community \u201cto collect and analyse information so that, a definitive conclusion regarding the origin of the virus could be made.<\/li>\n<li>Further, the publication by Nicholas Wade, titled <em>the origin of COVID: Did people or nature open Pandora\u2019s box at Wuhan?<\/em>\u201d has laid out a strong case for a fuller investigation into this event.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Read Also :-<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/7-pm-india-china-informal-summit-14th-october-2019\/\">India &#8211; China Informal Summit<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h5><strong>Arguments in support of lab leak theory of Coronavirus<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>First, advancement in biotechnology had made it possible to <strong>genetically engineer existing pathogens<\/strong> to make them more lethal and difficult to treat.<\/li>\n<li>Second, in 2019, the head of corona virus-related research at WIV lab, in an interview, talked about the <strong>research<\/strong> carried out involving the creation of novel, life-threatening and pandemic-creating viruses.<\/li>\n<li>Third, though The WIV operates a Biosafety level-4 (BSL-4) facility, many times the <strong>deficient safety standards<\/strong> had been reported by U.S. inspectors but no remedial measures were taken.<\/li>\n<li>Fourth, China\u2019s <strong style=\"font-family: var(--list--font-family); background-color: var(--global--color-background); color: var(--global--color-primary); font-size: var(--global--font-size-base);\">reluctance to share data,<\/strong><span style=\"font-family: var(--list--font-family); background-color: var(--global--color-background); color: var(--global--color-primary); font-size: var(--global--font-size-base);\"> covering up facts and impeding investigation raises suspicion.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Fifth,\u00a0the findings of WHO is also being discarded on the account that the <strong>inquiry team had persons with vest interests<\/strong>\u00a0in the WIV experimentation.<\/li>\n<li>Sixth,\u00a0there are instances when <strong>Smallpox and other viruses have escaped <\/strong>from secured laboratories before.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Read Also :-<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/ngt-action-on-vishakapatnam-gas-leak\/\">NGT Action On Vishakapatnam Gas Leak\u00a0<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Suggestions<\/p>\n<p><\/strong>To prevent future pandemics or an event of Biowarfare, the 1972 <strong>Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BWC) <\/strong>needs to be strengthened by resolving the following drawbacks<strong>. <\/strong>Such as,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li>The convention has no systems to verify compliance with its prohibitions. So, the global countries have to come together to build such a system<\/li>\n<li>The convention lacks enforcement mechanisms to penalize infringement of its provisions.
