{"id":111209,"date":"2021-06-08T17:40:17","date_gmt":"2021-06-08T12:10:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=111209"},"modified":"2021-06-08T17:40:17","modified_gmt":"2021-06-08T12:10:17","slug":"revised-vaccine-procurement-policy-allows-central-procurement-of-vaccines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/revised-vaccine-procurement-policy-allows-central-procurement-of-vaccines\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Revised Vaccine Procurement Policy&#8221; allows central procurement of vaccines"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5><\/h5>\n<h5><strong>What is the News?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>The government of India has announced a revised Vaccine Procurement Policy and also several relief measures to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>About Revised Vaccine Procurement Policy:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Central Government <\/strong>will go back to a system of <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/challenges-in-vaccine-procurement-in-india\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">centralised procurement of vaccines<\/a> against COVID-19.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Under this, <\/strong>the central government will now buy 75% of the total production of the vaccine producers and provide it to the states free of cost.<\/li>\n<li><strong>However, the system of<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/indias-new-covid-19-vaccine-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">25% vaccines being procured directly by the private hospitals<\/a> will continue.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>State governments <\/strong>will monitor that only \u20b9150 service charge is levied by the private hospitals over the decided price of the vaccines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Free for All Vaccine:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Until now, <\/strong>the Central Government used to provide free vaccines to everyone aged 45 and above.<\/li>\n<li><strong>However, <\/strong>from now on, the Centre will give free vaccines to all in the 18-44 age group starting June 21.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Extension of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The government of India <\/strong>has announced the extension of the free ration distribution scheme for 80 crore beneficiaries under the <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/pradhan-mantri-garib-kalyan-anna-yojana-2\/\">Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana<\/a> till November 2021.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Reasons for announcing revised Vaccine Procurement Policy<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>These new announcements <\/strong>came after the<a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/supreme-court-questions-govt-on-its-covid-19-vaccine-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Supreme Court had asked the Centre to file an affidavit<\/a> on how the sum of \u20b935,000 crores allocated in the Union Budget for vaccines has been spent so far.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The apex court <\/strong>also asked why these funds cannot be used for giving free vaccination for those in the age group of 18 to 44 years.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Moreover, <\/strong>the court observed that the Centre\u2019s policy of not providing free vaccines to this particular age group was prima facie arbitrary and irrational.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/epaper.thehindu.com\/Home\/MShareArticle?OrgId=GT48LAJ9M.1&amp;imageview=0\"><strong>The Hindu<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the News?
