But, India&#8217;s efforts to achieve SDGs is commendable.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Introduction<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/world-environment-day-2021-observed\/\">World Environment Day<\/a> (WED)<\/strong> is celebrated on<strong> June 5,<\/strong> every year, to encourage awareness and environmental protection.<\/li>\n<li>Also, one of the goals of the UN 2030 agenda for sustainable development is to create a <strong>balance between sustainable development and environmental conservation<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong style=\"background-color: var(--global--color-background); color: var(--global--color-primary); font-family: var(--global--font-secondary); font-size: var(--global--font-size-base);\">The theme for WED 2021- <\/strong>Ecosystem Restoration\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Focus on resetting nature &#8211;<\/strong>A global mission to revive billions of hectares, from forests to farmlands, from the top of mountains to the depth of the sea.<\/li>\n<li>The theme for this year in India &#8211; <strong>Promotion of\u00a0biofuels\u00a0for a better environment\u2019.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"background-color: var(--global--color-background); color: var(--global--color-primary); font-family: var(--global--font-secondary); font-size: var(--global--font-size-base);\">The <strong>UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021 \u2013 2030<\/strong> was also launched\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Also read<\/span>:<\/span> <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/sdg-india-index-and-indias-sustainable-development\/\">SDG India Index by NITI Aayog<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h5><strong>India&#8217;s efforts to achieve SDGs throughout the last seven years<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/swachh-bharat-mission-an-updated-holistic-analysis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban)<\/strong><\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>The movement focuses on achieving an open-defecation-free India, building solid waste management capacity and bringing about behavioural change.<\/li>\n<li>By 2022, the mission is expected to have reduced GHG emissions 17.42 million tonnes of carbon<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/pradhan-mantri-awas-yojana-urban\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana<\/strong><\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>The mission is to ensure the objective basic infrastructure services relating to water supply and management, energy efficiency and increased green spaces have been part of the goal in 500 target cities.<\/li>\n<li>By 2022, the mission is expected to have reduced GHG emissions by 48.52 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/amrut-mission-extended-by-2-more-years-till-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT)<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The mission focused on new construction technologies that are innovative, environmentally friendly and disaster-resilient.<\/li>\n<li>By 2022, the mission is expected to have reduced GHG emissions by 12 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/smart-cities-mission-and-amrut\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Smart Cities Mission<\/strong><\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>The mission is about the technological advancements of cities to improve governance, sustainability and disaster risk resilience.<\/li>\n<li>The objective is to improve city administration, sustainability, and catastrophe risk resistance through technological improvements.<\/li>\n<li>In urban areas, smart solutions are being adopted to increase energy efficiency and non-motorized transportation capacity.<\/li>\n<li>By 2022, the mission is expected to have reduced GHG emissions by 4.93 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Metro Neo, the\u00a0mass rapid transit system<\/strong> for providing low-cost, energy-efficient and eco-friendly urban transport solutions\u00a0for tier 2 and tier 3 cities.\n<ul>\n<li>The system is expected to mitigate around 21.58 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent.
