It also points to the possibility of increased inequality and poverty due to climate change.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Key Highlights from the Costs of Climate Change in India Report:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Impact of Climate Change: <\/strong>India is already feeling the impacts of 1\u00b0C of global warming such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Heatwaves<\/strong> are becoming more common and severe;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Heavy rain events<\/strong> have increased threefold since 1950 and<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rising sea levels<\/strong> are posing new risks as a third of India\u2019s population live along the coast.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Also Read<\/span>: <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/causes-of-climate-change-natural\/\">Causes behind natural climate change<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h5><strong>Economic Costs due to Climate Change:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>India may lose anywhere<\/strong> around 3 to 10% of its GDP annually by 2100 due to climate change.<\/li>\n<li>Moreover, even if the<strong> temperatures are contained to 2<sup>o<\/sup>C<\/strong>, India will still lose 2.6% GDP annually.<\/li>\n<li>In case the global t<strong>emperatures were to increase to<\/strong> <strong>3<sup>o<\/sup>C<\/strong>, this loss will increase to 13.4% annually.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna and Mahanadi deltas<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The report has analyzed<\/strong> the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna and Mahanadi deltas.\n<ul>\n<li>In these deltas, <strong>over 60% of<\/strong> cropland and pastureland is devoted to satisfying demand from elsewhere.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The report found that the <strong>climate-induced disappearance of the activity<\/strong> around these deltas will lead to an economic loss of 18\u201332% of GDP.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Increase in Poverty and Inequality due to Climate Change:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Rise in poverty<\/strong>: India\u2019s poverty rate may rise by 3.5% in 2040 due to climate change. This equates to around 50 million more poor people than there otherwise would have been in that year.\n<ul>\n<li>This can happen because of various factors.
