{"id":111801,"date":"2021-06-11T18:34:45","date_gmt":"2021-06-11T13:04:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=111801"},"modified":"2021-06-11T18:37:13","modified_gmt":"2021-06-11T13:07:13","slug":"niti-aayog-releases-fast-tracking-freight-in-india-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/niti-aayog-releases-fast-tracking-freight-in-india-report\/","title":{"rendered":"NITI Aayog releases &#8220;Fast Tracking Freight in India&#8221; Report"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>What is the News?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/issues-with-niti-aayogs-sdg-india-index-2020-21\/\">NITI Aayog<\/a> and Rocky Mountain Institute(RMI) has released a report titled \u201cFast Tracking Freight in India: A Roadmap for Clean and Cost-Effective Goods Transport\u201d.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Objectives of the Fast Tracking Freight in India Report:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Establish a coherent <\/strong>vision for a cost-effective, clean, and optimised freight transport system in India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Quantify <\/strong>the economic, environmental, and public health benefits of the freight system.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Describe <\/strong>techno-economically feasible solutions that would collectively deliver those benefits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>India\u2019s Logistics Sector:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Currently, <\/strong>India\u2019s logistics sector represents 5% of India\u2019s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The sector employs around 2.2 crore people.<\/li>\n<li><strong>India handles <\/strong>6 billion tonnes of goods each year, amounting to a total annual cost of INR 9.5 lakh crore.<\/li>\n<li><strong>These goods <\/strong>represent a variety of domestic industries and products:\n<ul>\n<li>22% are agricultural goods,<\/li>\n<li>39% are mining products and<\/li>\n<li>39% are manufacturing-related commodities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Trucks and other vehicles <\/strong>handle most of the movement of these goods. So, a whole system transformation can help uplift the freight sector.<\/li>\n<li><strong>This transformation<\/strong> will be defined by tapping into opportunities such as:\n<ul>\n<li>Increasing share of rail-based transport<\/li>\n<li>Optimisation of logistics and supply chains.<\/li>\n<li>Shift to electric and other clean-fuel vehicles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>These solutions <\/strong>can help India save Rs. 311 lakh crore cumulatively over the next three decades<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Other measures recommended by the Fast Tracking Freight in India Report:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>The Logistic sector can reduce its rising CO2 emissions and high logistic costs by following measures:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Increasing the rail network\u2019s capacity<\/li>\n<li>Promoting intermodal transport<\/li>\n<li>Improving warehousing and trucking practices<\/li>\n<li>Policy measures and pilot projects for clean technology adoption and<\/li>\n<li>Stricter fuel economy standards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Benefits of these measures: <\/strong>These measures will lead to the following benefits:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reduces the logistics cost by 4% of GDP<\/li>\n<li>Achieves 10 gigatonnes of cumulative CO2 emissions savings between 2020 and 2050<\/li>\n<li>Reduces nitrogen oxide (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) emissions by 35% and 28%, respectively until 2050.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Read Also :-<a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/mobilising-electric-vehicle-financing-in-india-a-report-of-niti-aayog\/\">Mobilising Electric Vehicle Financing in India<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=1725584\"><strong>PIB<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the News?
