It assesses the extent to which a country promotes the prosperity of its people by measuring economic well-being through data and survey responses.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Parameters: <\/strong>The index measures the prosperity and competitiveness of countries by examining four factors<strong>:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Economic performance<\/li>\n<li>Government efficiency<\/li>\n<li>Business efficiency<\/li>\n<li>Infrastructure<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h5><strong>Key Findings of World Competitiveness Index 2021:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Top Rankings<\/strong>: Switzerland has topped the index. It was followed by Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands and Singapore.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Asia: <\/strong>The top-performing Asian economies in order are: Singapore (5<sup>th<\/sup>), Hong Kong (7<sup>th<\/sup>), Taiwan (8<sup>th<\/sup>) and China (16<sup>th<\/sup>).<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>UAE<\/strong> and the <strong>USA<\/strong> remain in the same spots as last year (9<sup>th<\/sup> and 10<sup>th<\/sup>, respectively)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Key Findings Related to India:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>India\u2019s Ranking: <\/strong>India has maintained the 43<sup>rd<\/sup> rank in the world competitiveness index 2021.\n<ul>\n<li>In 2020, India was ranked 43<sup>rd<\/sup> on the index.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Comparison with BRICS Countries: <\/strong>Among BRICS countries, India was ranked second (43<sup>rd<\/sup>) after China (16<sup>th<\/sup>), followed by Russia (45<sup>th<\/sup>), Brazil (57<sup>th<\/sup>) and South Africa (62<sup>nd<\/sup>).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Performance of India: <\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Among the four factors, India made significant improvements in government efficiency this year. These improvements are due to the following reasons:\n<ul>\n<li>Relatively <strong>stable public finances<\/strong> (despite difficulties brought by the pandemic, in 2020 the government deficit stayed at 7 per cent) and<\/li>\n<li><strong>Positive feedbacks<\/strong> registered among Indian business executives with respect to the support and subsidies provided by the government to the private companies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>But India&#8217;s performance in other parameters such as economic performance, business efficiency and infrastructure remained the same.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Strengths of India: <\/strong>India\u2019s strengths lie in investments in telecoms (1<sup>st<\/sup>), mobile telephone costs (1<sup>st<\/sup>), ICT services exports (3<sup>rd<\/sup>), remuneration in services professions (4<sup>th<\/sup>) and terms of trade index (5<sup>th<\/sup>).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Weaknesses of India: <\/strong>India\u2019s weakness lies in the broadband subscribers (64<sup>th<\/sup>), exposure to particulate pollution (64<sup>th<\/sup>), human development index (64<sup>th<\/sup>), GDP per capita (63<sup>rd<\/sup>) and foreign currency reserves per capita (62<sup>nd<\/sup>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table style=\"width: 100%; border-collapse: collapse; background-color: #f7f2f2;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><strong>Also read: <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/7-pm-good-report-card-on-ease-of-doing-business-25th-october-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World Ease of Doing Business Report<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h5><strong>Qualities of higher-ranked countries<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>The report finds that<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Qualities such as investment in innovation, digitalization, welfare benefits and leadership, resulting in social cohesion, have helped countries to perform better. Thus ranked higher in competitiveness.<\/li>\n<li>Top-performing economies are characterized by varying degrees of investment in innovation, diversified economic activities, and supportive public policy.<\/li>\n<li>Competitive economies succeeded in transitioning to a remote work routine while also allowing remote learning.
