Thus, Russia expects India to give up all efforts to reverse China\u2019s encroachment strategies. However, it is based on a flawed assessment of the current situation.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Background<\/strong>:<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Russian President has recently said that both the Indian Prime Minister and the Chinese President are \u201cresponsible\u201d enough to solve issues.<\/li>\n<li>It also emphasized the need to avoid interference of any extra-regional power.<\/li>\n<li>On the other hand, China is continuing its efforts to undermine India\u2019s global position.<\/li>\n<li>Also, India has said it can no longer be confined between the Malacca Strait and the Gulf of Aden.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Russia supporting China blindly is further distancing India and Russia.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How Russia is undermining India\u2019s efforts against China\u2019s encroachment strategy?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Firstly, Russia\u2019s views regarding the Quad <\/strong>reinforces China\u2019s claim that the Quad is aimed at containing China.\n<ul>\n<li>Recently, Russia even advised India to take a \u201clarger look at Chinese foreign policies\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Also, Russia had recently termed the Quad as \u201cAsian NATO\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Secondly, Russia has <strong>rejected the <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/increasing-importance-of-indo-pacific-for-eu\/\">Indo-Pacific<\/a> concept<\/strong> in favor of the Asia-Pacific.\n<ul>\n<li>Russia believes that Indo-Pacific is designed to contain both China and Russia, and it is reviving the Cold War mentality.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Thirdly, <strong>Russia\u2019s policymakers are obsessive with Russia\u2019s rivalry with the U.S.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>This attitude of Russia is making it more pro-China, which is resulting in more aggressive blocking of India\u2019s policy agendas.<\/li>\n<li>For example, increasing proximity between Russia and Pakistan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Why India Started looking west during geo-political changes in the past?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Firstly, due to the <strong>failure of the Strategic triangle<\/strong> proposed by Russia.\n<ul>\n<li>Russia proposed the \u2018Russia-China-India\u2019 triangle to bring together the three major power.<\/li>\n<li>But due to China\u2019s dismissive attitude and emerging China-Pakistan nexus, India started investing its diplomatic energies in rapprochement with the United States.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Secondly, after the disintegration of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), India realized <strong>Russia is incapable of balancing threats from China.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>For example. India\u2019s cooperation with the U.S. has strengthened due to rising terrorism and China\u2019s growing assertiveness.<\/li>\n<li>India has also deepened its ties with Japan and Australia for a soft balancing.<\/li>\n<li>Thus, India adopted <strong>external balancing strategies<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Thirdly, India focussed on building an <strong>alternative international economic order.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Economic liberalization also allowed India to buy defense weapons from a wider global market, such as Israel and France.
