{"id":11421,"date":"2019-11-06T16:50:21","date_gmt":"2019-11-06T11:20:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=11421"},"modified":"2019-11-06T16:50:21","modified_gmt":"2019-11-06T11:20:21","slug":"gujarat-anti-terror-law-gets-president-assent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/gujarat-anti-terror-law-gets-president-assent\/","title":{"rendered":"Gujarat anti-terror law gets President assent"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong>President has given his assent to the Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organised Crime (GCTOC) Bill,2015.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key Provisions of the bill:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The act defines a \u2018terrorist act\u2019 as an act committed with the intention to disturb law and order or threaten the unity, integrity, and security of the state.<\/li><li>The Act empowers law enforcing authorities to intercept phone calls, recording of which would be admissible in court as evidence.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Section 16 of the bill stipulates a confession made by a person before a police officer not below the rank of superintendent of police (SP) shall be admissible in court.<\/li><li>Section 25 provides immunity to the government and police officers for initiating action under the law.<\/li><li>The law puts the onus of proving the innocence of the accused on the accused and has provision for maximum punishment of death penalty and fine of Rs 10 lakh.&nbsp;<\/li><li>The bill extends period of probe from stipulated 90 days to 180 days before filing of charge sheet.<\/li><li>The bill also provides for the creation of a special court as well as the appointment of special public prosecutors.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News:President has given his assent to the Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organised Crime (GCTOC) Bill,2015.
