The five countries are Brazil, Russia, India, China and South\nAfrica. Brazil is the current chair of BRICS<\/li><li>Originally the first four were grouped as\n&#8220;BRIC\u201d. The acronym was first used in 2001 by economist Jim O\u2019Neill.<\/li><li>In 2010, South Africa was officially admitted as\na BRIC nation following an invitation from China and the other BRIC nations, making\nthe current acronym BRICS.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BRICS Summits<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Since 2009 BRIC countries has held annual BRICS\nLeaders\u2019 Summits.<\/li><li>Discussions focus on spheres of political and\nsocioeconomic coordination, in which member countries have identified business\nopportunities, economic complementarities and areas of cooperation. <\/li><li>The theme for upcoming 2019 BRICS Summit is \u2018Economic\nGrowth for an Innovative Future\u2019.<\/li><li>At the 2019 BRICS Summit, i-BRICS \u2014 Innovation\nBRICS Network, will be launched. It will include networking of research\ninstitutes like science parks, incubators and accelerators.
