{"id":115849,"date":"2021-07-01T20:43:42","date_gmt":"2021-07-01T15:13:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=115849"},"modified":"2021-07-06T11:23:47","modified_gmt":"2021-07-06T05:53:47","slug":"cabinet-approves-rs-3-03-lakh-crores-reform-based-power-distribution-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/cabinet-approves-rs-3-03-lakh-crores-reform-based-power-distribution-scheme\/","title":{"rendered":"Cabinet approves Rs. 3.03 lakh crores reform-based power distribution scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=1731473\"><strong>PIB<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the News?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Union Cabinet has approved a Reforms-based and Results-linked, Revamped Power Distribution Sector Scheme.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>About Reform Based Power Distribution Scheme:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><strong>Aim: <\/strong>To improve the operational efficiencies and financial sustainability of DISCOMs\/ Power Departments excluding Private Sector DISCOMs by providing conditional financial assistance for strengthening of supply infrastructure.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Objectives of the Scheme:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Reduction of AT&amp;C losses to pan-India levels of 12-15% by 2024-25.<\/li>\n<li>Reduction of ACS-ARR gap to zero by 2024-25.<\/li>\n<li>Developing Institutional Capabilities for Modern DISCOMs<\/li>\n<li>Improvement in the quality, reliability, and affordability of power supply to consumers through a financially sustainable and operationally efficient Distribution Sector.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Duration and Implementation of the Scheme:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Nodal Agencies: <\/strong>Power Finance Corporation(PFC) and Rural Electrification Corporation(REC) have been nominated as the nodal agencies for the implementation of the scheme.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Duration: <\/strong>The Scheme would be available till the year 2025-26.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Other Features of the Scheme:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Assistance: <\/strong>The financial assistance under the Scheme will be based on meeting pre-qualifying criteria as well as upon achievement of basic minimum benchmarks by the DISCOM.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Approach: <\/strong>Implementation of the Scheme would be based on the action plan worked out for each state rather than a \u201cone-size-fits-all\u201d approach.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Merging of Scheme: <\/strong>The central schemes, Integrated Power Development Scheme(IPDS), Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (Saubhagya) will be merged under this scheme.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Focus: <\/strong>The Scheme has a major focus on improving electricity supply for the farmers and for providing daytime electricity to them through solarization of agricultural feeders.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Consumer Empowerment: <\/strong>The scheme also enables consumer empowerment by way of prepaid <strong>Smart metering<\/strong> to be implemented in Public-Private-Partnership(PPP) mode.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Technology: <\/strong>Artificial Intelligence would be used to analyze data generated to enable DISCOMs to make informed decisions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: PIB\u00a0 What is the News?
