{"id":115858,"date":"2021-07-01T18:18:51","date_gmt":"2021-07-01T12:48:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=115858"},"modified":"2021-07-06T11:17:56","modified_gmt":"2021-07-06T05:47:56","slug":"cabinet-approves-bharatnet-implementation-through-public-private-partnership-model","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/cabinet-approves-bharatnet-implementation-through-public-private-partnership-model\/","title":{"rendered":"Cabinet approves BharatNet implementation through Public Private Partnership Model"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=1731456\"><strong>PIB<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the News?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Union Cabinet has accorded approval for the revised implementation strategy of BharatNet through Public-Private Partnership(PPP) mode in 16 States of the country.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>BharatNet Project:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>BharatNet Project was originally launched in 2011 as the National Optical Fibre Network(NOFN) and renamed as Bharat-Net in 2015.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>What is the revised implementation strategy of BharatNet?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><strong>The revised BharatNet Project <\/strong>will be implemented through<a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/answered-what-is-public-private-partnership-ppp-discuss-various-advantages-and-issues-related-to-public-private-partnership-ppp-in-india\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Public-Private Partnership(PPP)<\/a> model with a total cost of \u20b929,430 crores. Of this, the Government will provide the viability gap fund of \u20b919,041 crores.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Viability Gap Fund<\/strong> means a grant to support projects that are economically justified but not financially viable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Aim: <\/strong>The project which initially aims to connect all the gram panchayats of the country through optic fiber for providing broadband services; it will now have two new components:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The first will be that<\/strong> BharatNet will now extend up to all inhabited villages beyond the gram panchayats (GPs) in the 16 states.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Second, <\/strong>the project will also now include the creation, upgradation, operation, maintenance, and utilization of BharatNet by the private sector partner who will be selected by a competitive international bidding process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Coverage: <\/strong>The 16 States covered under the project are: Kerala, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Moreover, the project <\/strong>will be divided into nine packages, each corresponding to one or more telecom circles, and no private investor will be awarded more than four packages to avoid monopoly.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Expected Benefits of the Project:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Use of innovative technology<\/strong> by the Private Sector Provider for the consumers;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Competitive tariffs <\/strong>for services;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bridge the rural-urban divide<\/strong> of digital access and accelerate the achievement of Digital India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Expected to increase<\/strong> direct and indirect employment and income generation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: PIB What is the News?
