{"id":116464,"date":"2021-07-06T07:57:48","date_gmt":"2021-07-06T02:27:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=116464"},"modified":"2021-07-06T16:49:59","modified_gmt":"2021-07-06T11:19:59","slug":"in-2020-wildlife-board-cleared-land-diversion-for-48-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/in-2020-wildlife-board-cleared-land-diversion-for-48-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"In 2020, wildlife board cleared land diversion for 48 projects"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/india\/in-2020-wildlife-board-cleared-land-diversion-for-48-projects\/articleshow\/84129084.cms\"><strong>TOI<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h5><strong>What is the News?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>According to a report, the Standing Committee of the National Board for Wildlife (SC-NBWL) had approved the diversion of around 1,792 hectares of wildlife habitat in protected areas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are the projects cleared by the Standing Committee of the National Board for Wildlife(SC-NBWL)?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The SC-NBWL had considered <\/strong>82 proposals, out of which 25 were for diversion within wildlife sanctuaries and national parks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Most of the projects<\/strong> <strong>cleared<\/strong> were for linear diversion within sanctuaries, national parks, and tiger reserves.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Linear projects <\/strong>are land-disturbing activities that are linear in nature such as roads, railways, transmission lines, pipelines, or any utility lines.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Linear projects are known to be especially destructive <\/strong>because they fragment the entire landscape and interrupt the movement range of animals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Moreover, <\/strong>the SC-NBWL had also approved the deletion of around 1 lakh hectares of protected areas (PA) from Hastinapur Wildlife Sanctuary (HWS) in UP and Great Indian Bustard Sanctuary in MP.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>National Board for Wildlife(NBWL):<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>NBWL <\/strong>is a statutory body constituted under the Wildlife Protection Act,1972.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Chairman<\/strong>: Prime minister.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vice-Chairperson<\/strong>: Minister of Environment, Forests &amp; Climate Change.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Functions<\/strong>: Its role is advisory in nature and advises the Central Government on framing policies and measures for the conservation of wildlife in the country.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The board has the power <\/strong>to review all wildlife-related matters and approve projects in and around national parks and sanctuaries.<\/li>\n<li><strong>No alteration of boundaries <\/strong>in national parks and wildlife sanctuaries can be done without the approval of the NBWL.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Standing Committee of NBWL:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Standing Committee OF NBWL <\/strong>is chaired by the Union Minister of Environment, Forests &amp; Climate Change.<\/li>\n<li><strong>It consists of a <\/strong>member secretary and different members, including a non-official nominated by the minister.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: TOI What is the News?
