{"id":118873,"date":"2021-07-15T17:07:28","date_gmt":"2021-07-15T11:37:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=118873"},"modified":"2021-07-16T18:08:14","modified_gmt":"2021-07-16T12:38:14","slug":"indias-neurological-disease-burden-rising","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/indias-neurological-disease-burden-rising\/","title":{"rendered":"India\u2019s neurological disease burden rising"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/epaper.thehindu.com\/Home\/MShareArticle?OrgId=GFN8P3TRU.1&amp;imageview=0\">The Hindu<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h5><strong>What is the News?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><strong>India State-Level Disease Burden Initiative <\/strong>has published in Lancet the first-ever comprehensive estimates of disease burden due to neurological disorders in India from 1990 to 2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note: <\/strong>India State-Level Disease Burden Initiative is a collaborative effort between the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Public Health Foundation of India, Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, and others.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>What are Neurological disorders?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Neurological disorders <\/strong>are medically defined as disorders that affect the brain as well as the nerves found throughout the human body and the spinal cord.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Categories<\/strong>: The three categories of neurological disorders include:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Non-communicable neurological disorders<\/strong> like Alzheimer\u2019s disease, central nervous system cancer, Parkinson\u2019s disease, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Communicable neurological disorders <\/strong>like encephalitis etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Injury-related neurological disorders<\/strong> like traumatic brain injuries etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Key Findings of the Study:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Around 82.8% <\/strong>of the total neurological disorders burden in India is due to non-communicable disorders, 11.2% due to communicable ones, and 6% due to injury-related ones<\/li>\n<li><strong>The contribution of <\/strong>non-communicable and injury-related neurological disorders to the total disease burden in India has more than doubled between 1990 and 2019.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reason<\/strong>: mainly due to the aging of the population.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Risk Factors<\/strong>: High blood pressure, air pollution, and high body-mass index were the known risk factors for the burden of the neurological disorder.<\/li>\n<li><strong>State wise: <\/strong>This burden is higher in less developed States. On the other hand, the burden of the disorders related to the injury is higher in more developed States.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Suggestions<\/strong>: The study has called for increased awareness, early identification, cost-effective treatment, and rehabilitation among other efforts to reduce the burden of neurological disorders in each state.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The Hindu What is the News?
