{"id":119931,"date":"2021-07-20T20:27:58","date_gmt":"2021-07-20T14:57:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=119931"},"modified":"2021-07-24T11:59:49","modified_gmt":"2021-07-24T06:29:49","slug":"government-eases-stocking-norms-for-pulses-importers-wholesalers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/government-eases-stocking-norms-for-pulses-importers-wholesalers\/","title":{"rendered":"Government eases stocking norms for pulses importers, wholesalers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/india\/government-eases-stocking-norms-for-pulses-importers-wholesalers\/articleshow\/84572208.cms#:~:text=NEW%20DELHI%3A%20The%20government%20on,norms%20for%20wholesalers%20and%20millers.&amp;text=The%20revised%20stock%20limit%20norm,200%20tonnes%20of%20one%20variety.\"><strong>TOI<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h5><strong>What is the News?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Government of India has eased stock holding limits on pulses after traders protested by staying away from the buying-selling activities in mandis across the country.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Background:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Department of Consumer Affairs <\/strong>had issued the Removal of Licensing Requirements, Stock Limits, and Movement Restrictions on Specified Foodstuffs (Amendment) Order, 2021.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The order was issued <\/strong>in exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Essential Commodities Act,1955.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The order had <\/strong>imposed stock holding limits on all pulses barring moong or green gram for a period up to October 31, 2021.<\/li>\n<li><strong>If the stocks of entities <\/strong>exceed the prescribed limits, it has to be declared on the online portal of the Department of Consumer Affairs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Why was this order issued?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>There was a <\/strong>sustained increase in the price (inflation) of pulses in March-April,2021.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hence, <\/strong>this decision was needed to prevent hoarding and check price rise.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>What has been done now?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Government of India <\/strong>has exempted importers of pulses from stock limits and also relaxed the norms for wholesalers and millers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>These relaxations <\/strong>have been made in view of softening of prices of all the key varieties of pulses.<\/li>\n<li><strong>However<\/strong>, stock limits will now be applicable only on tur, urad, gram and masoor till October 31.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Moreover<\/strong>, all millers and importers will have to continue to declare their stocks on the web portal of the consumer affairs ministry.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note: <\/strong>This order was totally in variance with the <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/essential-commodities-amendment-bill-2020\/\">Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.<\/a>However, since the implementation of the act has been stayed by the Supreme Court.This allowed the government to reintroduce stock holding limits under Essential Commodities Act,1955.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: TOI What is the News?
