They\u2019re getting <\/span><b>awfully close to the brim in coastal communities <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">due to decades of sea-level rise caused by rising temperatures.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>It warned that the moon wobble would heighten high tides in the middle of the 2030s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but it also showed that this prediction does not apply uniformly to every coastline everywhere.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><b>About Moon wobble<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a regular oscillation that humans have known about for centuries.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is one of many factors that can <\/span><b>either exacerbate rising sea levels or counteract them,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> alongside other variables like weather and geography.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><b>Why does the moon wobble?<\/b><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The moon revolves around the Earth about once a month, and that orbit is a little tilted. To be more precise, <\/span><b>the moon\u2019s orbital plane around the Earth<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is at an approximate 5-degree incline to the Earth\u2019s orbital plane around the sun.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because of that, <\/span><b>the path of the moon\u2019s orbit seems to fluctuate over time<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, completing a full cycle \u2014 sometimes referred to as <\/span><b>a nodal cycle<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 every 18.6 years.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><b>Effect of moon wobble:<\/b><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">High tides on this planet are caused mostly by the pull of the moon\u2019s gravity on a spinning Earth.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On most beaches, you would see two high tides every 24 hours.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>At certain points along the cycle, the moon\u2019s gravitational pull comes from such an angle that one of the day\u2019s two high tides is a little higher<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, at the expense of the other.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During its most rapid upward phase, it acts to enhance the effective sea level, and during <\/span><b>its most rapid downward phase, like we\u2019re in now,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> it acts to suppress the effective sea level.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As per the study, the wobble could cause high tide levels at a beach to oscillate by 1 or 2 inches over the course of its long cycle, thereby raising the baseline.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The more your baseline is raised, the smaller the weather event you need to cause a flooding event.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><b>Way Ahead:<\/b><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><b>High-tide flooding related to climate change is expected to break records with increasing frequency over the next decade.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s important to prepare for the mid-2030s, as it is the point where the switch flips and the natural cycle of the moon starts to amplify the rate of sea-level rise.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: Indian Express\u00a0 Synopsis: Scientists are estimating that moon wobble would bring high tides in some coastlines of the world in the next decade.
