Nations are seeking to expand their engagement in the region based on the principles of a free, open, inclusive and rules-based architecture with security as a core pillar.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Indo-Pacific region is a vast maritime zone where the interests of many players are engaged: India, Japan, France, and the United States, as well as medium and smaller powers like Australia, Indonesia, and South Africa; there are stakeholders from beyond the region, too.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>India&#8217;s Indo-pacific strategy<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>India\u2019s Indo-Pacific strategy was articulated by our Prime Minister at the <strong>Shangri-La Dialogue<\/strong> in Singapore in 2018 under the <strong>\u2018SAGAR\u2019 concept of Security and Growth for All<\/strong> in the Region.<\/li>\n<li>This was further developed at the East Asia Summit of November 2019, where <strong>seven pillars of the Indo-Pacific Oceans\u2019 Initiative<\/strong> were enunciated. These seven pillars are:\n<ul>\n<li>Maritime security<\/li>\n<li>Maritime ecology<\/li>\n<li>Maritime resources<\/li>\n<li>Capacity building and resource sharing<\/li>\n<li>Disaster risk reduction and management<\/li>\n<li>Science, technology and academic cooperation<\/li>\n<li>Trade connectivity and maritime transport<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>To take forward its call for a free, open, inclusive and connected region, New Delhi has joined and created new partnerships, such as the <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/quad-quadrilateral-security-dialogue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Quad<\/a><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/supply-chain-resilience-initiative-or-scri-launched-by-india-japan-and-australia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Supply Chain Resilience Initiative<\/a><\/span><\/strong> and various plurilateral configurations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table style=\"width: 100%; border-collapse: collapse; background-color: #f7f2f2;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><strong>Also Read<\/strong>: <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/indo-pacific-and-india\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">India in the Indo-pacific &#8211; Explained<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h5><strong>Relevance of Indo-Pacific Business Summit<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>The recently held Indo-pacific business summit was important in three ways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>First event focusing on industry partnerships in the region: <\/strong>It reiterated the relevance of economic engagement and highlighted trade and investment as a common pillar of an overall strategy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wide participation of govt &amp; pvt sector<\/strong>: The summit saw a wide participation of governments and private sectors across 21 countries. This highlighted how the Indo-Pacific is central to their foreign policies and their desire to deepen their partnership with India.\n<ul>\n<li>India\u2019s trade with the participating countries has <strong>risen by about eight times<\/strong> over the last two decades, with the US, UAE and Singapore as our top export destinations in the region.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It outlined the scope of emerging economic partnerships beyond the usual areas of trade and investment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Areas of cooperation<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>India highlighted three important areas that the region\u2019s private industry must capitalize on, namely<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Healthcare, Healthcare infra and medical supplies<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Digital sector:<\/strong> This includes both physical as well as soft digital infrastructure.
