{"id":120499,"date":"2021-07-22T20:06:17","date_gmt":"2021-07-22T14:36:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=120499"},"modified":"2021-07-24T11:05:09","modified_gmt":"2021-07-24T05:35:09","slug":"1-2-lakh-indian-children-lost-caregivers-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/1-2-lakh-indian-children-lost-caregivers-study\/","title":{"rendered":"1.2 lakh Indian children lost caregivers: study"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/epaper.thehindu.com\/Home\/MShareArticle?OrgId=G5B8PS7S3.1&amp;imageview=0\"><strong>The Hindu<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the News?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Global Study has been published in Lancet estimating the number of children who lost one or both parents or caregiver during Covid-19.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>About the study:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The study <\/strong>was conducted by researchers from the CDC Covid-19 Response Team, University of Oxford, WHO and others.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Coverage: <\/strong>It covered 21 countries that accounted for nearly 77% of global Covid-19 deaths as of April 30, 2021.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Method: <\/strong>Researchers estimated deaths of parents or caregivers based on Covid-19 mortality data from March 2020 through April 2021 and national fertility statistics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Key Findings:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><strong>Globally:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Globally, <\/strong>around 11.34 lakh children lost a primary caregiver (at least one parent or custodial grandparent).<\/li>\n<li><strong>The children <\/strong>who lost only either a mother or a father totalled over 1 million (10.42 lakhs).<\/li>\n<li><strong>If we include <\/strong>other co-residing grandparents (or other older relatives), the total is 15.62 lakh children.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Moreover, <\/strong>there were up to five times more children who lost a father than who lost a mother.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>India:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>In India<\/strong>, an estimated 1.19 lakh children lost a primary caregiver \u2014 one or both parents, or one or both custodial grandparents. Among them, 1.16 lakh lost one or both parents.<\/li>\n<li><strong>India is placed third<\/strong> after Mexico (1.41 lakh) and Brazil (1.30 lakh) that have the highest number of children who have lost a primary caregiver.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Although India<\/strong> ranks third in absolute numbers, its figure of 0.3 per 1,000 children was much lower than those of countries such as South Africa(5.1), Mexico(3.5), Brazil(2.4), the US(1.5), and others countries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The Hindu What is the News?
