{"id":120741,"date":"2021-07-23T19:01:54","date_gmt":"2021-07-23T13:31:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=120741"},"modified":"2021-07-24T10:46:18","modified_gmt":"2021-07-24T05:16:18","slug":"india-breaks-into-the-top-10-list-of-agri-produce-exporters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/india-breaks-into-the-top-10-list-of-agri-produce-exporters\/","title":{"rendered":"India breaks into the top 10 list of agri produce exporters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/epaper.livemint.com\/Home\/MShareArticle?OrgId=237e4f3fcaf&amp;imageview=0\"><strong>Livemint<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h5><strong>What is the News?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>The World Trade Organization(WTO) has released a report on the trends in World Agricultural Trade in the past 25 years.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Key Findings of the Report:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Agricultural Exports:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>India has entered<\/strong> into the top 10 list of agricultural produce exporters in 2019 with a sizable share in the export of rice, cotton, soya beans, and meat.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>In 2019, <\/strong>India with a 3.1% share in global agri exports replaced New Zealand as the ninth largest agri exporter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>The US, <\/strong>which was the largest Agri exporter in 1995(22%), was overtaken by the European Union in 2019(16.1%). The US\u2019s share fell to 13.8% in 2019.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Brazil maintained<\/strong> its ranking as the third-largest exporter increasing its share from 4.8% in 1995 to 7.8% in 2019.<\/li>\n<li><strong>China climbed <\/strong>from the sixth spot in 1995 (4%) to fourth in 2019 (5.4%).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Rice Exports:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The top rice exporters <\/strong>in 1995 included Thailand (38%), India (26%), and the US (19%).<\/li>\n<li><strong>In 2019, <\/strong>India (33%) overtook Thailand (20%) to top the list while Vietnam(12%) overtook the US to the third spot.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The top 10 exporters<\/strong> accounted for more than 96% of exports in both 1995 and 2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Other Agri Exports:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Cotton: <\/strong>India was the third-largest cotton exporter (7.6%) and the fourth-largest importer (10%) in 2019. It had not featured in the top 10 list in 1995.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Soya Bean: <\/strong>Soya Bean is the largest traded agri product. India (0.1%) has a meager share in the Soya Bean trade but was ranked ninth in the world.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Meat and Edible Meat:<\/strong> India has been ranked eighth in the world with a 4% share in global trade.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wheat and Meslin: <\/strong>While India was the seventh-largest wheat and meslin exporter in 1995, it does not feature in the top 10 list in 2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Concerns:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>India lagged behind <\/strong>as a value-added contributor to world agri exports.<\/li>\n<li><strong>India\u2019s share<\/strong> of foreign value-added content in its agri exports was also low at 3.8% primarily due to high tariffs on agri imports to protect the domestic market.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: Livemint What is the News?
