{"id":120771,"date":"2021-07-23T18:34:50","date_gmt":"2021-07-23T13:04:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=120771"},"modified":"2021-07-24T10:37:54","modified_gmt":"2021-07-24T05:07:54","slug":"geospatial-technologies-for-the-water-sector-in-india","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/geospatial-technologies-for-the-water-sector-in-india\/","title":{"rendered":"Geospatial Technologies for the Water Sector in India"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Source<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <a href=\"https:\/\/pib.gov.in\/PressReleseDetailm.aspx?PRID=1737365\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PIB<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is the news?<\/b><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Director-General of the National Mission for Clean Ganga has recently released a report titled \u2018<\/span><b>Potential of Geospatial Technologies for the Water Sector in India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Geospatial technology is a term used to describe the range of modern tools contributing to the geographic mapping and analysis of the Earth.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report has been prepared by the Association of Geospatial Industries \u2013 a geospatial technology industry body.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><b>About the report<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report outlines<\/span><b> key water sector programs and projects in the country.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It provides an overview of how each of these programs is currently using geospatial technologies, and <\/span><b>how to improve technology adoption in the future<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For instance, technologies are used in the Namami Gange Mission for mapping different attributes of the Ganga basin.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Various other missions such as Jal Jeevan Mission, Atal BhujalYojna, also have set up projects using these technologies<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As per the report, <\/span><b>a plethora of Geospatial and Digital technologies can be effectively used to combat the water crisis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This includes:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Geospatial <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Satellite-based Remote Sensing, Surveying and Mapping, GPS based equipment and sensors, GIS and Spatial Analytics,\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Digital <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Analytics, Internet of Things, 5G, Robotics and Digital Twin.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report has also listed several case studies highlighting the use of geospatial technologies in different contexts related to water problems.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also provides a list of openly available geospatial and digital tools that are widely used by the global, national, and sub-national level agencies.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><b>Why should the government adopt Geospatial Technology in the water sector<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">?<\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Given the population density and <\/span><b>requirement of water for agriculture, India is heavily dependent on groundwater.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Further, it is one of the worst-hit countries as far as the water crisis is concerned.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The use of the latest and best digital and spatial technologies will <\/span><b>help in taking data-based informed decisions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will ensure better measurement, management, and maintenance of assets.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will improve monitoring of resources and even provide predictive and prescriptive analysis for forecasting and planned interventions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hence, a focus on Geospatial technology is desired to combat this pervasive challenge and to ensure better water management in the country.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: PIB What is the news?
