{"id":120995,"date":"2021-07-24T20:02:52","date_gmt":"2021-07-24T14:32:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=120995"},"modified":"2021-07-26T11:13:22","modified_gmt":"2021-07-26T05:43:22","slug":"niti-aayog-and-iea-launch-renewables-integration-in-india-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/niti-aayog-and-iea-launch-renewables-integration-in-india-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"NITI Aayog and IEA launch \u2018Renewables Integration in India 2021\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=1738276\"><strong>PIB<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the News?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The International Energy Agency(IEA) in association with NITI Aayog has released a report titled \u201cRenewables Integration in India 2021\u201d.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>About Renewables Integration in India 2021 Report:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><strong>India\u2019s Demand For Energy:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>India is the third largest<\/strong> energy-consuming country in the world.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Also, India has made significant progress<\/strong> towards its universal electrification target for residential users.\u00a0 100 million people gained electricity access in 2018 alone.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Per capita electricity consumption <\/strong>across the 28 Indian states and eight union territories is still around a third of the world average and is expected to continue increasing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Renewable Energy Penetration in India:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Renewable energy <\/strong>penetration is highly variable by the state in India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The share of solar and wind <\/strong>in India\u2019s ten renewables-rich states (Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Punjab, and Kerala) is significantly higher than the national average of 8.2%.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Solar and wind account<\/strong> for around 29% of annual electricity generation in Karnataka, 20% in Rajasthan, 18% in Tamil Nadu, and 14% in Gujarat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Future Prospects of Renewable Energy:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The report highlights <\/strong>that India\u2019s power system can efficiently integrate renewables (175 GW by 2022 and 450 GW by 2030).<\/li>\n<li><strong>But this would require <\/strong>identification of resources, proper planning, policy and institutional support, energy storage, and advanced technology initiatives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>What the Indian States should do? <\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Indian states need to employ a wide range of flexible options, such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Demand response<\/li>\n<li>More flexible operation of coal-based power plants<\/li>\n<li>Grid improvements to transition to cleaner electricity systems.<\/li>\n<li>Larger shares of renewables can be better managed by shifting the time of use in agriculture.<\/li>\n<li>Time of Use(ToU) tariffs will be an effective tool to incentivise demand-side management and encourage flexible consumption.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: PIB What is the News?
