{"id":121217,"date":"2021-07-26T18:39:54","date_gmt":"2021-07-26T13:09:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=121217"},"modified":"2021-07-26T18:39:54","modified_gmt":"2021-07-26T13:09:54","slug":"union-home-minister-launches-the-green-sohra-afforestation-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/union-home-minister-launches-the-green-sohra-afforestation-campaign\/","title":{"rendered":"Union Home Minister launches the Green Sohra Afforestation Campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=1738816\"><strong>PIB<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h5><strong>What is the News?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>The Union Home Minister has launched the Green Sohra Afforestation Campaign at Sohra (Cherrapunji).<\/p>\n<h5><strong>About Green Sohra Afforestation Campaign:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Green Sohra Afforestation Campaign <\/strong>is a campaign of the Assam Rifles.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Under the campaign, <\/strong>the entire area of \u200b\u200bCherrapunji is going to be adopted by Assam Rifles for plantation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>So when the trees are cut for fuel and other uses<\/strong>, 80% of the total land will be planted with traditional and long lifespan trees. The remaining 20% \u200b\u200bwill be used for animal feed, ornamental plants, and nursery which will meet all the requirements and help reduce the feeling of long lifespan trees.<\/li>\n<li><strong>With this technique, <\/strong>multi-level farming is done, and the forest grows 30 times faster and after 3 years it becomes free of maintenance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>About Greater Sohra Water Project:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Project was launched<\/strong> by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region(DoNER) and the Government of Meghalaya under the North-East Special Infrastructure Scheme.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The project is a part<\/strong> of the Prime Minister&#8217;s ambitious project Jal Jeevan Mission.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The project aims<\/strong> to provide pure drinking water through taps to every household in Sohra (Cherrapunji) region.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>About Cherrapunji:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Cherrapunji or Sohra <\/strong>is a subdivisional town in the East Khasi Hills district in Meghalaya.It is the traditional capital of ka hima Sohra (Khasi tribal kingdom).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sohra has often been credited<\/strong> as being the wettest place on Earth, but for now nearby Mawsynram currently holds that distinction.<\/li>\n<li><strong>However<\/strong>, Cherrapunji still holds the all-time record for the most rainfall in a calendar month and in a year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>About North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme(NESIDS):<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>NESIDS <\/strong>is a Central Sector Scheme launched by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region(DoNER) in 2017.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim<\/strong>: The Project aims to ensure focused development of the North East Region by providing financial assistance for projects of\n<ul>\n<li>physical infrastructure relating to water supply, power, connectivity to enhance tourism and<\/li>\n<li>social sector for creation of infrastructure in the areas of primary and secondary sectors of education and health.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: PIB What is the News?
