{"id":121777,"date":"2021-07-28T19:46:45","date_gmt":"2021-07-28T14:16:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=121777"},"modified":"2021-07-28T20:06:58","modified_gmt":"2021-07-28T14:36:58","slug":"government-developed-indigenous-climate-model-to-predict-the-impact-of-climate-change-on-monsoon-in-the-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/government-developed-indigenous-climate-model-to-predict-the-impact-of-climate-change-on-monsoon-in-the-country\/","title":{"rendered":"Government developed indigenous climate model to predict the impact of climate change on monsoon in the country"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=1739511\"><strong>PIB<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h5><strong>What is the News?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>The Ministry of Earth Sciences has developed an state-of-the-art Earth System Model(ESM) known as the IITM-ESM.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>About the Earth System Model(ESM) named IITM-ESM:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>IITM-ESM <\/strong>is an indigenous climate model developed to predict the impact of climate change on the monsoon in the country.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Developed by: <\/strong>The model has been developed at the Centre for Climate Change Research(CCCR), Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology(IITM) under the Ministry of Earth Sciences(MoES).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Components: <\/strong>IITM-ESM is a state-of-the-art climate model with components of the atmosphere, ocean including deep ocean circulation, Arctic and Antarctic sea-ice and ocean biogeochemistry.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Purpose: <\/strong>The model can address key questions concerning the science of climate change including reliable projections of the global and regional climate, Indian monsoon, hydrological cycle, sea-level changes and tropical ocean-atmosphere processes in a changing climate.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Significance: <\/strong>IITM-ESM is the first climate model from South Asia that has contributed to the <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/what-is-intergovernmental-panel-on-climate-change-ipcc\/\">Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) <\/a>sixth assessment report(AR6) and participated in the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project \u2013Phase 6(CMIP6) experiments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>About Coupled Model Intercomparison Project(CMIP):<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>CMIP <\/strong>is an international effort to improve climate models by comparing multiple model simulations to observations and to each other.<\/li>\n<li><strong>These comparisons <\/strong>can help our understanding of past and future climate changes, and also lead to climate model improvements.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The project falls under the<\/strong> direction of the Working Group on Coupled Modeling, an activity of the World Climate Research Program(WCRP).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>About World Climate Research Program(WCRP):<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>WCRP <\/strong>is an international programme that helps to coordinate global climate research.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Program <\/strong>was established in 1980 under the joint sponsorship of the World Meteorological Organization(WMO) and the International Council for Science (ICSU).<\/li>\n<li><strong>The program <\/strong>has also been sponsored by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission(IOC) of UNESCO since 1993.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: PIB What is the News?
