{"id":122858,"date":"2021-08-03T10:30:15","date_gmt":"2021-08-03T05:00:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=122858"},"modified":"2021-08-03T13:11:00","modified_gmt":"2021-08-03T07:41:00","slug":"new-polyhouse-technology-for-horticulture-crops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/new-polyhouse-technology-for-horticulture-crops\/","title":{"rendered":"New Polyhouse Technology for Horticulture CROPS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=1741062\"><strong>PIB<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h5><strong>What is the News?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>CSIR-Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute, Durgapur has inaugurated a \u201cNaturally Ventilated Polyhouse Facility\u201d and laid the foundation stone of \u201cRetractable Roof Polyhouse\u201d at Ludhiana in Punjab.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Farmers <\/strong>face a number of problems such as excessive or insufficient cold, heat, rain, wind, and other factors associated with insufficient transpiration.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Transpiration<\/strong> is the biological process by which water is lost in the form of water vapour from the aerial parts of the plants.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Crop loss, <\/strong>in the country due to insects and pests, is about 15% at present, and it may increase as climate change lowers the plant defence system against insects and pests.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To some extent, <\/strong>these problems can be overcome by a conventional polyhouse.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>About Conventional Polyhouse:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>A conventional polyhouse <\/strong>has a stationary roof to reduce the effect of weather anomalies and pests.<\/li>\n<li><strong>However,<\/strong> roof covering leads to excessive heat and insufficient light (early morning) to the crops.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Besides, <\/strong>they are also prone to insufficient levels of CO2, transpiration, and water stress.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hence<\/strong>, a combination of open-field conditions and conventional polyhouse conditions is a more effective.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>About Retractable Roof Polyhouse Technology:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Retractable Roof Polyhouse Technology <\/strong>is an all-weather structure.<\/li>\n<li><strong>It has an automatic retractable roof<\/strong> that will be operated based on weather conditions and crop requirements from the conditional database using a PLC software.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Significance of this development:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>This development will help farmers<\/strong> cultivate both seasonal and off-season crops.<\/li>\n<li><strong>This can in turn <\/strong>fetch a higher yield and high shelf-life produce by creating optimal indoor microclimate conditions compared to conventional open field tunnels and naturally-ventilated polyhouses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: PIB What is the News?
