{"id":123090,"date":"2021-08-03T17:41:13","date_gmt":"2021-08-03T12:11:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=123090"},"modified":"2021-08-04T16:42:37","modified_gmt":"2021-08-04T11:12:37","slug":"revaluation-of-minority-commission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/revaluation-of-minority-commission\/","title":{"rendered":"Revaluation of Minority Commission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=1741566\"><strong>PIB<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h5><strong>About National Commission of Minorities(NCM):<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>National Commission for Minorities (NCM) <\/strong>is a statutory body set up in 1993 under the National Commission for Minorities(NCM) Act, 1992.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Section 2 of the NCM Act <\/strong>stipulates that \u2018Minority\u2019 for the purposes of the Act means a community notified as such by the Central Government.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Initially, <\/strong>five religious communities namely Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Zoroastrians(Parsis) were notified as minority communities. In 2014, Jains were also notified as another minority community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Composition:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Commission consists of: <\/strong>Chairperson, Vice- Chairperson, and five Members.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hence, <\/strong>a total of 7 persons are to be nominated by the Central Government from amongst persons of eminence, ability, and integrity.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Each Member <\/strong>holds office for a period of three years from the date of assumption of office.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Functions of NCM:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>evaluate <\/strong>the progress of the development of minorities under the Union and States;<\/li>\n<li><strong>monitor the <\/strong>working of the safeguards provided in the Constitution and in laws enacted by Parliament and the State Legislatures;<\/li>\n<li><strong>make recommendations <\/strong>for the effective implementation of safeguards for the protection of the interests of minorities by the Central Government or the State Governments;<\/li>\n<li><strong>look into specific complaints <\/strong>regarding deprivation of rights and safeguards of the minorities<\/li>\n<li><strong>recommend measures<\/strong> for the removal of problems arising out of any discrimination against minorities;<\/li>\n<li><strong>conduct studies, <\/strong>research, and analysis on the issues relating to the socio-economic and educational development of minorities;<\/li>\n<li><strong>suggest appropriate measures <\/strong>in respect of any minority to be undertaken by the Central Government or the State Governments;<\/li>\n<li><strong>make periodical <\/strong>or special reports to the Central Government on any matter pertaining to minorities and in particular difficulties confronted by them; and<\/li>\n<li><strong>any other matter <\/strong>which may be referred to it by the Central Government.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: PIB About National Commission of Minorities(NCM): National Commission for Minorities (NCM) is a statutory body set up in 1993 under the National Commission for Minorities(NCM) Act, 1992.
