{"id":124277,"date":"2021-08-07T17:09:19","date_gmt":"2021-08-07T11:39:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=124277"},"modified":"2021-08-11T17:24:30","modified_gmt":"2021-08-11T11:54:30","slug":"indias-first-bio-bank-for-heart-failure-research-inaugurated-at-sree-chitra-tirunal-institute-for-medical-sciences-and-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/indias-first-bio-bank-for-heart-failure-research-inaugurated-at-sree-chitra-tirunal-institute-for-medical-sciences-and-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"India\u2019s first bio-bank for heart failure research inaugurated at Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and technology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Source: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=1743071\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>PIB<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first National Heart Failure Biobank (NHFB) in India was inaugurated at the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST).<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>About Biobank:<\/b><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A biobank is a collection of biological samples (such as blood) and health information.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">be used to understand molecular pathways and to improve the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of diseases.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><b>About National Heart Failure Biobank (NHFB):<\/b><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><b>National Heart Failure Biobank(NHFB) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is the first heart failure Biobank in the country that would collect blood, biopsies, and clinical data as a guide for future diagnosis and treatment of Heart Failure Patients.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>The biosamples collected by the biobank will include<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the<strong> blood, serum, tissue samples<\/strong> obtained during open-heart surgery and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and genomic DNA collected from heart failure patients.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>The samples will be collected <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">after informed consent from patients who are willing to donate specimens.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Moreover, the biobank activity <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will be supervised by a Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) with a member from the Indian Council of Medical Research(ICMR).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>What was the need for National Heart Failure Biobank (NHFB)?<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heart failure (HF) is emerging as a major health problem in India, with a reported mortality of nearly 60% at five years, which is higher than many common cancers.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hence, there was a need for more research in the field of Heart Failure(HF) and it was in this background that the heart failure biobank was inaugurated.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This B<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">iobank will help in <strong>providing insights into heart diseases and heart failure<\/strong> among Indian children and adults, which are very different from that seen in the West. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The facility will also be useful for the research and treatment of post-covid heart failure.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: PIB What is the News?
