The WIHG has been studying the glaciers since 2015.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Method<\/strong>: The study is based on the field observations of glacier mass balance collected via stake networking over the glacier surface from 2016-2019.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Stake networking<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a method where a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stake made of bamboo is installed (insert) on the glacier surface using the steam drill for mass balance measurement<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><b>Key Findings of the Study:<\/b><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Pensilungpa Glacier (PG) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">located in Zanskar, Ladakh is retreating. The study has attributed the retreat to an <strong>increase in the temperature and decrease in precipitation during winters<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>The study also points <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to the significant influence of debris cover on the mass balance and retreat of the glacier&#8217;s endpoint, especially in summer.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>It is also possible<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that the <strong>precipitation of summer periods at higher altitudes will change from snow to rain<\/strong>, and that may influence the summer and winter patterns.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>The study suggests<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that due to continuous rise in the air temperature in line with the global trend, the melting would increase.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: PIB What is the News?
