{"id":124615,"date":"2021-08-09T17:57:31","date_gmt":"2021-08-09T12:27:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=124615"},"modified":"2021-08-10T10:14:31","modified_gmt":"2021-08-10T04:44:31","slug":"india-to-call-bids-for-battery-storage-system-in-ladakh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/india-to-call-bids-for-battery-storage-system-in-ladakh\/","title":{"rendered":"India to call bids for battery storage system in Ladakh"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Source: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/epaper.livemint.com\/Home\/MShareArticle?OrgId=9811b21d9f&amp;imageview=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Livemint<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India will be calling for bids for the largest global tender for a 13 gigawatt-hours (GWh) grid-scale battery storage system in Ladakh Region.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What are Battery Storage Systems?<\/b><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Battery storage systems<\/strong> are devices that enable energy from renewables like solar and wind to be stored and then released when customers need power most.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lithium-ion batteries which are used in mobile phones and <\/span><b>electric cars <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are currently the dominant storage technology.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><b>What is the need for a large scale Battery Storage Project in Ladakh?<\/b><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><b>The Government of India <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has planned to build 10GW of large green energy capacity projects in the Ladakh region, comprising both solar and wind projects.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>These large battery storage projects<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will be used to store the electricity generated to supply to the rest of the country through a transmission link.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Importance of Battery Energy Storage Systems for India:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>According to the Central Electricity Authority (CEA)<\/strong>, India\u2019s power requirement would be 817GW by 2030. More than half of this would be clean energy.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>This huge injection of electricity<\/strong> in the grid from sources such as solar and wind requires a storage mechanism that can help balance the national electricity grid.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Hence, it is estimated<\/strong> that there will be a need for a 27GW grid-scale battery energy storage system by 2030 with four hours of storage.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One GWh (1,000-MWh) of battery capacity is sufficient to power 1 million homes for an hour and around 30,000 electric cars<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: Livemint What is the News?
