Its objectives can be duly achieved by encouraging greater participation of corporations and charitable trusts towards it.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>Background<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rural India has 18.93 crore households, of whom only 17 percent had some version of a tap water connection. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Realizing this disparity, the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) was launched by the Indian PM on 15th August 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>About Jal Jeevan Mission<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It aims to deliver a <\/span><b>functional tap connection by 2024 to every household <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in rural India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The total mission outlay has been estimated at Rs 3.60 trillion, of which Rs 2.08 trillion is the share of the Central government.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Read more<\/strong> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/jal-jeevan-mission-3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jal Jeevan mission<\/a><\/p>\n<h5><b>Benefits of JJM<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The expected outcomes are linked to a <\/span><b>reduction in drudgery in the life of women and providing dignity of life to rural communities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Mission will also see t<\/span><b>he skill-development of an entirely new set of plumbers, masons, pump-mechanics, quality-control specialists across Bharat<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 opening up a vast job market.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At 15 new jobs per village, there would be an addition of 90 lakh new jobs in rural India.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><b>Progress of JJM:<\/b><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> reported progress to date has been more than satisfactory.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It has met around 41% of its target as of July 2021. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It does appear that by 2024, the overall target can be achieved.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This by itself will be commendable considering the federal structure of our polity, the diversity of the water-source challenge in different geographies, and the sheer granularity of the deliverables.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><b>Other measures that JJM can take<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Experts suggest launching <\/span><b>an aggressive outreach program for corporations, trusts, and foundations in India and abroad<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
