{"id":125249,"date":"2021-08-11T17:54:50","date_gmt":"2021-08-11T12:24:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=125249"},"modified":"2021-08-12T11:45:38","modified_gmt":"2021-08-12T06:15:38","slug":"29-of-students-exposed-to-second-hand-smoke","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/29-of-students-exposed-to-second-hand-smoke\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201829% of students exposed to second-hand smoke\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Source: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/epaper.thehindu.com\/Home\/MShareArticle?OrgId=GQJ8S3O1O.1&amp;imageview=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>The Hindu<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare has presided over the release of the Fourth Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS-4), India, 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><strong>About Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS-4), India, 2019:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>The fourth round of the Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS-4) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was conducted in 2019 by the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first three rounds of GYTS were conducted in 2003, 2006 and 2009.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Purpose<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The survey was designed to produce <strong>national estimates of tobacco use among school-going children<\/strong> aged 13-15 years at the state level and Union Territory (UT) by sex, location of school (rural-urban), and management of a school (public-private).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><b>Key Findings of the Survey:<\/b><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Use of Tobacco<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Nearly o<strong>ne-fifth of the students aged 13-15 used any form of tobacco product<\/strong> (smoking, smokeless, and any other form) in their life. However, there has <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">been a <strong>42% decline in tobacco use in the past decade<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Gender wise<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The u<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">se of any form of tobacco was higher among boys than girls.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>State-wise:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The current use of tobacco among students across the States\/ UTs ranged from the highest in Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram (58% each) to the lowest in Himachal Pradesh (1.1%) and Karnataka (1.2%).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Age of Initiation of Tobacco:<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">38% of cigarettes, 47% of bidi smokers and 52% of smokeless tobacco users initiated the use before their 10<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> birthday.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Second-hand smoke: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">29.5% of the students were exposed to second-hand smoke (11.2% at home, 21.2% inside enclosed public places, 23.4% at outdoor public places.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Use of E-Cigarettes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The use of e-cigarette among the students was 2.8%.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The Hindu What is the News?
