W<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ith this, the number of Ramsar sites in India are 46.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The wetlands that have received the Ramsar Site tag are Bhindawas Wildlife Sanctuary and Sultanpur National Park from Haryana; and Thol Lake Wildlife Sanctuary and Wadhvana Wetland from Gujarat.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/sultanpur-bhindawas-wetlands-near-delhi-get-ramsar-tag\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Click Here to Read About Bhindawas Wildlife Sanctuary and Sultanpur National Park<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<h4><b>About Thol Lake Wildlife Sanctuary:<\/b><\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li><b>Thol Lake Wildlife Sanctuary <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is situated in Gujarat. The sanctuary lies on the Central Asian Flyway.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Built in<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Thol Lake <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was initially built in 1912 as a tank by the Gaekwad regime to provide irrigation facilities to farmers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Wildlife Sanctuary<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: In 1988, it was declared as a wildlife sanctuary by the state government to protect the birdlife found in this open-water wetland site.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Bird species:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The lake supports <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">more than 320 bird species, including more than 30 threatened waterbird species such as the critically endangered White-rumped Vulture and Sociable Lapwing; and the vulnerable Sarus Crane and Common Pochard.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h5><b>About Wadhvana Wetland:<\/b><\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li><b>Wadhvana Wetland <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is situated in Gujarat. The wetland was <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">created as an irrigation dam in 1910 in Dabhoi taluka of Vadodara, Gujarat.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>The wetland is internationally <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">important for its birdlife as it provides <strong>wintering ground to migratory waterbirds<\/strong>, including over 80 species that migrate on the Central Asian Flyway.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>These include<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> some threatened or near-threatened species such as the endangered Pallas\u2019s fish-eagle, the vulnerable common pochard and the near-threatened Dalmatian pelican, grey-headed fish-eagle and ferruginous duck.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>In addition<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the red-crested pochard (Netta rufina), a duck which is otherwise rare in Western India, is regularly recorded here during winter.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>About Central Asian Flyway(<\/b><b>CAF) <\/b><b>Flyway:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-126442\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/CAF.png?resize=750%2C517&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Central Asian Flyway\" width=\"750\" height=\"517\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/CAF.png?w=925&amp;ssl=1 925w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/CAF.png?resize=300%2C207&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/CAF.png?resize=768%2C530&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>A flyway<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a geographical region within which a single or a group of migratory species completes its annual cycle &#8211; breeding, moulting, staging and non-breeding.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Central Asian Flyway(<\/b><b>CAF) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">encompasses overlapping migration routes of over 30 countries for different water-birds. The CAF links the northernmost breeding ground in Siberia to the southernmost non-breeding grounds in west and south Asia, the Maldives and the British Indian Ocean territory.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: PIB What is the News?
