What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n

The Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment has launched an online portal named TAPAS (Training for Augmenting Productivity and Services).<\/span><\/p>\n

About TAPAS Portal:<\/b><\/h5>\n

  1. Developed by: <\/b>National Institute of Social Defence, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. What is it? <\/b>It is a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) platform that offers various courses in the field of social defence.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Objective:<\/b> The main objective of introducing courses on social defence is to impart training and enhance the knowledge and skills for the capacity building of the participants<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Courses:<\/b> It will provide five basic courses <\/span>\n
      \n
    1. Drug (Substance) Abuse Prevention, <\/span><\/li>\n
    2. Geriatric\/Elderly Care, <\/span><\/li>\n
    3. Care and Management of Dementia, <\/span><\/li>\n
    4. Transgender Issues <\/span><\/li>\n
    5. Comprehensive course on Social Defence Issues.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
    6. Eligibility<\/b>: The courses can be taken up by anyone who wishes to enhance his or her knowledge on the topics and there is no fee for joining.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
      About <\/b>National Institute of Social Defence (NISD)<\/b>:<\/b><\/h5>\n
        \n
      1. NISD was originally set up as the Central Bureau of Correctional Services in 1961 under the <\/span>Union Ministry of Home Affairs.<\/b><\/li>\n
      2. Since 1975, the Institute has functioned as a subordinate office under the <\/span>Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n
      3. In 2002, NISD became an <\/span>Autonomous Body<\/b> under the <\/span>Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment <\/b>and is registered under Societies Act 1860 with the Government of NCT, Delhi.<\/span><\/li>\n
      4. Mandate: <\/b>NISD is the nodal training and research institute in the field of social Defence. It is currently focusing on human resource development in the areas of <\/span>drug abuse prevention<\/b>, <\/span>welfare of senior citizens<\/b>, <\/span>beggary prevention<\/b>, <\/span>transgender<\/b> and <\/span>other social defence issues<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
