Nonetheless, the pain and violence of partition remains deeply entrenched in the nation\u2019s memory.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Realizing this, the government has <strong>declared that 14th August<\/strong> would be observed as <strong>Partition Horror&#8217;s Remembrance Day<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Rationale behind declaring a Partition Horrors Remembrance Day<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a way of<\/span><b> saluting those sons and daughters<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of our beloved motherland who had to sacrifice their lives in the frenzy of violence.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It would <\/span><b>remind present and future generations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of Indians of the pain and suffering faced by the people during the partition.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, it will keep reminding us of the <\/span><b>need to remove the poison of social divisions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and disharmony.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For instance, the two-nation theory which was the basis of partition failed miserably with the creation of Bangladesh in 1971.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will encourage the masses to <\/span><b>strengthen the spirit of oneness<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, social harmony, and human empowerment.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><b>Way Forward<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Given that the trauma was felt not just in India but in three countries, an attempt to <\/span><b>mark the day across the subcontinent<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> might have been more inclusive.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is necessary too, to remember not just the violence of 1947 but <\/span><b>also the colonial hand that cause the Partition.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steps must be taken to hold the British Empire to account for and educate successive generations on the perils of imperialism, arbitrary map-making, and inhuman policy of divide and rule.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The Hindu, PIB, PIB\u00a0\u00a0 Synopsis: In a fitting tribute to all those who lost their lives due to the partition of the nation and were displaced from their roots, the Government has decided to observe 14th August as the day to commemorate their sacrifice.
