It aims to preserve the seeds of Plant Genetic Resources (PGR) for future generations <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the form of seeds, genomic resources, pollen etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Hosted By:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (NBPGR), New Del<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hi.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Capacity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Presently, the Gene Bank is protecting 4.52 lakh accessions, of which 2.7 lakh are Indian germplasm and the rest have been imported from other countries.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Germplasm<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a live information source for all the genes present in the respective plant. It can be conserved for long periods and regenerated whenever it is required in the future.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h5><b>About <\/b><b>National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources(NBPGR):<\/b><\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>The National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources(NBPGR) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was established in 1977 by renaming the National Bureau of Plant Introduction as NBPGR.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Parent Institute:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is one of the <\/span><b>Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Institutes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Mandate:<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To act as the nodal institute at the national level for acquisition, management and genomics-based profiling of indigenous and exotic plant genetic resources (PGR). The PGR is collected for food and agriculture and to carry out related research and human resources development for sustainable growth of agriculture.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Headquarters: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New Delhi.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Significance: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NBPGR <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is meeting the need of in-situ and ex-situ germplasm conservation through Delhi Headquarters and 10 regional stations in the country.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: PIB What is the News?
