These parasites are transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected female phlebotomine sandfly, a tiny \u2013 2\u20133 mm long \u2013 insect vector.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Types: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are three main forms of this disease:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Visceral leishmaniasis (VL), also known as kala-azar, and\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mucocutaneous leishmaniasis (MCL)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>CL is the most <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">common form, VL is the most severe form and MCL is the most disabling form of the disease.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h5><b>About V<\/b><b>isceral Leishmaniasis(VL):<\/b><\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>V<\/b><b>isceral Leishmaniasis(VL) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is also known as kala-azar. The disease is characterized by irregular bouts of fever, substantial weight loss, swelling of the spleen and liver, and anaemia.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>It is a neglected tropical disease<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that affects millions annually, making it the second most common parasitic killer after malaria.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the disease is not treated, the<\/span><b> fatality rate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in developing countries can be as high as <\/span><b>100% within 2 years.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h5><b>Treatment of VL:<\/b><\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li><b>The conventional treatment therapy of VL<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> mainly involves painful intravenous administration. This imposes many treatment complications, including prolonged hospitalization, high cost, and high risk of infection.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>On the other hand, <\/b>Oral drug delivery <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">brings forth massive advantages that can help overcome these barriers. But with oral routes have potential high renal toxic side effects.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><b>To overcome this, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">scientists have developed a method based on nano carrier-based oral drugs coated with Vitamin B<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">12<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
