{"id":126928,"date":"2021-08-18T18:04:23","date_gmt":"2021-08-18T12:34:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=126928"},"modified":"2021-08-19T18:43:59","modified_gmt":"2021-08-19T13:13:59","slug":"india-records-572-growth-in-grant-of-patents-in-last-7-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/india-records-572-growth-in-grant-of-patents-in-last-7-years\/","title":{"rendered":"India records 572% growth in grant of Patents in last 7 years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Source: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=1746758\"><b>PIB<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Minister of Commerce and Industry has conferred the National Intellectual Property Awards 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>About National Intellectual Property Awards:<\/b><\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Given by: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Office of Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks(CGPDTM), Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Aim: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To recognize and reward the top achievers, comprising individuals, institutions, organisations that have contributed towards strengthening the IP ecosystem in the country and encouraging creativity and innovation.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/intellectual-property-rights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Click Here to Read about Intellectual Property Rights(IPR) and Patents<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<h5><b>India\u2019s Achievements in Patents:<\/b><\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Firstly,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> India recorded a <strong>growth of 572% in grant of Patents<\/strong> in the last 7 years. Around 28,391 patents were granted in 2020-21 as compared to 4,227 grants during 2013-14.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Secondly,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> there has been a reduction in the Time of patent examination from 72 months in 2016 to 12-24 months in 2020<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Thirdly, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">around 14.2 lakh trademarks were registered in the last 4 years (2016-2020) in comparison to 11 lakh during 75 years (1940-2015).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Fourthly<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, India\u2019s ranking in <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/india-ranked-in-the-top-50-nations-in-the-global-innovation-index\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Global Innovation Index<\/a> has improved to 48th in 2020 from 81st in 2015-16.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India is now working in a mission mode to achieve the ambitious target of being in the top 25 nations of the Global Innovation Index.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>Indian Government Initiatives to Promote Patents<\/b> <b>Filing:<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>There will be an 80% fee reduction in the filing of IPRs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for all Recognized Educational Institutions (Govt\/Aided\/Pvt). This will be applied irrespective of whether such an institute is in India or outside India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Moreover, the Office of CGPDTM (IP office) will impart training<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &amp; awareness to 10 Lakh students as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (15th Aug 2021 to 15 Aug 2022).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: PIB What is the News?
