It will provide for a better quality of life and a sense of security.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h5><b>Examples of Community Policing in India:<\/b><\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Janamaithri Suraksha in Kerala: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was introduced in 2008 to facilitate greater accessibility and closer interaction between police and the local community.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Meira Paibi (Torch-bearers) in Assam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The women of the Manipuri Basti in Guwahati help with improving the law and order prob<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lem in their area, by tackling drug abuse among the youth. They light their torches and go around the basti guarding the entry and exit points, to prevent the youth of the area from going out after sunset.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Various other community policing models are:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rajasthan through \u2018Joint Patrolling Committees\u2019<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tamil Nadu through \u2018Friends of Police\u2019<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">West Bengal through the \u2018Community Policing Project\u2019<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Andhra Pradesh through \u2018Maithri\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maharashtra through \u2018Mohalla Committees\u2019.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h5><b>Benefits of Community Policing:<\/b><\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Residents have a more favourable view of their local police department.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Improved trust between law enforcement and residents.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More accurate information from residents regarding criminal activity in their community.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A better understanding of the needs of citizens and their expectations of the police.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The Hindu What is the News?
