It flourished in the basins of the Indus River spreading across large parts of modern Pakistan, northwest and western India, and Afghanistan.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>The civilisation is noted<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for its urban planning, baked brick houses, elaborate drainage systems, water supply systems, large and new techniques in handicraft.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Moreover,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the archaeological sites of the civilization have always been a topic of interest for the scholar since its discovery in 1926.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>However,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the language that the people spoke is yet to be deciphered.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h5><b>What does the research paper have found?<\/b><\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>The research paper<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> taken clues from the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">few words shared between the Indus Valley people and the cultures they came in contact with, such as the Persian Gulf as well as Mesopotamia,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Based on this evidence found,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> it has been said that Ancestral Dravidian languages were possibly spoken by a significant population in the Indus Valley civilization.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h5><b>What is the evidence the researchers have found?<\/b><\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li><b>The researchers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">analyzed linguistic, and historical evidence to learn how some words in ancient Persian records match with proto-Dravidian language.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>For example, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">words used for elephant -pri, pru -and for ivory -pirus in the ancient Persian records were originally derived from \u2018plu\u2019, a proto-Dravidian term for the mammal.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Similarly, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">several <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indic words refer to the \u2018Salvadora persica\u2019 as pilu. <\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Salvadora Persica is better known as the toothbrush tree in the western world and as \u2018Miswak\u2019 in Arabic-speaking countries, since its branches are used as natural toothbrushes). <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This suggests that just like the elephant word- pilu, the name used for the tree too is rooted in the proto-Dravidian word for tooth.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: Indian Express What is the News?
