The green seaweed is named Acetabularia jalakanyakae.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>About Acetabularia <\/b><b>jalakanyakae:<\/b><\/h5>\n<figure id=\"attachment_128311\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-128311\" style=\"width: 643px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-128311\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Acetabularia-jalakanyakae.png?resize=643%2C462&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Acetabularia jalakanyakae\" width=\"643\" height=\"462\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Acetabularia-jalakanyakae.png?w=959&amp;ssl=1 959w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Acetabularia-jalakanyakae.png?resize=300%2C216&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Acetabularia-jalakanyakae.png?resize=768%2C552&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 643px) 100vw, 643px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-128311\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Independent<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Acetabularia <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">jalakanyakae is a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bright green algae with a size as small as 20 to 40 mm.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This algae species is named after the word \u2018jalakanyaka\u2019 which means \u2018goddess of oceans\u2019 or \u2018mermaid\u2019 in the Sanskrit language.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the first species of the genus Acetabularia discovered in India.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h5><b>Key Features:<\/b><\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li><b>Acetabularia jalakanyakae <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have caps with intricate designs as if they were umbrellas of a mermaid.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>The main feature<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the newly discovered species is that the plant is made up of one gigantic cell with a nucleus.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Its <\/b><b>nucleus forms a rhizoid structure<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which facilitates the algae to attach itself to shallow rocks.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Rhizoids<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are a structure in plants and fungi that functions like a root in support or absorption.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Moreover,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the species is <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">highly regenerative<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in nature such that even if one chops off the top portion, the algae can regrow.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h5><b>About Algae:<\/b><\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Algae <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are chlorophyll-bearing, simple, thalloid, autotrophic and largely aquatic (both freshwater and marine) organisms.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>They also occur <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in a variety of other habitats: moist stones, soils and wood. Some of them also occur in association with fungi (lichen) and animals (e.g., on sloth bear).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>The algae reproduce<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by vegetative, asexual and sexual methods.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Algae are useful to man in a variety of ways. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At least a half of the total carbon dioxide fixation on earth is carried out by algae through photosynthesis.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>They are also of paramount importance<\/strong> as primary producers of energy-rich compounds which form the basis of the food cycles of all aquatic animals.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: Tribune What is the News?
