{"id":129082,"date":"2021-08-27T19:07:05","date_gmt":"2021-08-27T13:37:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=129082"},"modified":"2021-08-28T16:58:50","modified_gmt":"2021-08-28T11:28:50","slug":"government-of-india-launches-the-e-shram-portal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/government-of-india-launches-the-e-shram-portal\/","title":{"rendered":"Government of India launches the e-Shram Portal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Source: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=1749294\"><b>PIB<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Minister for Labour and Employment<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> formally launched the e-Shram portal.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>About e-Shram portal:<\/b><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/e-shram-portal-a-database-for-unorganised-sector-workers\/\"><b>e-Shram portal <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has been developed for creating a National Database of the Unorganized Workers(NDUW).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Key Objective: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To implement social security schemes for the unorganized workers.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><b>Key Features of the Portal:<\/b><\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li><b>There are no income criteria<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for registering on e-SHRAM as an unorganized worker. However, one should not be an income tax payee.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Any worker who is unorganized<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and aged between 16-59 is eligible to register on the e-SHRAM portal.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Documents like<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the Aadhaar Number, mobile number, Aadhaar linked bank account will be required by the worker to register on the portal.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If a worker does not have an Aadhaar linked mobile number, he can visit the nearest Common Service Centre(CSC) and register through Biometric authentication.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>After registering,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> workers shall be issued an e-Shram card with a 12 digit unique Universal Account Number (UAN), It will be used to access the benefits of the various social security schemes through this Card anywhere anytime.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Moreover, the workers <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">registered on the portal would be given accidental insurance cover. They will be also eligible for Rs 2 lakh on death or permanent disability and Rs 1 lakh in case of partial disability.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>Who is an Unorganized worker?<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Any worker who is a<\/strong> home-based worker, self-employed worker or a wage worker working in the unorganized sector and not a member of ESIC or EPFO, is called an unorganized worker.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>There are varying estimates<\/strong> of the number of unorganised workers.
