{"id":129184,"date":"2021-08-27T16:53:17","date_gmt":"2021-08-27T11:23:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=129184"},"modified":"2021-08-28T17:36:16","modified_gmt":"2021-08-28T12:06:16","slug":"the-world-may-soon-get-a-vaccine-against-chikungunya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/the-world-may-soon-get-a-vaccine-against-chikungunya\/","title":{"rendered":"The world may soon get a vaccine against Chikungunya"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Source<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.downtoearth.org.in\/news\/health\/the-world-may-soon-get-a-vaccine-against-chikungunya-78672\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Down to Earth<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<h5><strong>What is the news?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>A multi-country Phase II \/ III clinical trial of a vaccine led by the<strong> International Vaccine Institute<\/strong> (IVI) in partnership with Bharat Biotech International Ltd (BBIL) has begun in Costa Rica.<\/p>\n<p>It is funded by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations <strong>(CEPI)<\/strong> with support from the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/indias-first-indigenous-vaccine-hgco19-gets-nod-for-human-trials\/\">Ind-CEPI mission<\/a><\/strong><\/span> of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), India.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>BBV87 vaccine<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>IVI is increasing the speed of clinical development of the vaccine named <strong>BBV87<\/strong> through Phase II \/ III randomized, controlled trials.<\/li>\n<li>BBV87 vaccine is an inactivated whole virion vaccine based on a strain derived from an East, Central and South African genotype.\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Virion is a complete virus particle that consists of an RNA or DNA core with a protein coat<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Inactivated virions technology has a safety profile that potentially makes this vaccine accessible to special populations, such as the immunocompromised and pregnant women<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Funding<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>The funding is supported by the European Union\u2019s<strong> Horizon 2020 programme<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>CEPI first partnered with IVI and BBIL for providing up to $14.1 million for vaccine manufacturing and clinical development of the BBV87 vaccine candidate<\/li>\n<li>It is also supported with a grant of up to $2.0 million from the Indian Government\u2019s Ind-CEPI initiative<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>About GCCDP<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>The Global Chikungunya Vaccine Clinical Development Programme (GCCDP) seeks to develop and manufacture an affordable Chikungunya vaccine to achieve WHO prequalification<\/li>\n<li>It aims to enable its distribution in low- and middle-income countries<\/li>\n<li>It is also consistent with CEPI\u2019s core commitment to equitable access, affordability, and sustainability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Terms to know<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/cepi\/\">CEPI<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/ivi\/\">International Vaccine Institute<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/horizon-2020\/\">Horizon 2020<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: Down to Earth What is the news?
